If you had a choice of any wild mantis, which would you most like to collect? I am currently gathering and testing what I need for extended trips around the U.S. There are a few states I have never been in. And most I do not know well. A bit more gear and ready to take off. Local trips at first to work out kinks close to home, then not sure of limit in distance but thinking as long as months in duration (or longer). Travel to an area and live in a tent while learning what that area is like. Not talking tourist or big city here. Mantis hunting sounds like as good a goal as another.

If successful and there is any interest they will be made available. I do not plan on keeping any for myself. Maybe we can get some back into the hobby again----thinking "unicorns" and others. Hoping to catch my last total eclipse in late August. After that am open to head down the road.   So, if you could travel and collect, where would you to go?

It sounds like you're staying in the States, but if I could go anywhere, I would go to French Guiana and collect Choeradodis Strumaria and any other Choeradodis sp. I come across. But in the States, I'd want to collect Brunneria Borealis, Stagmomantis Carolina... basically whatever mantis I see, I'd grab. Of course, I'd take note of its natural environment so I can replicate the climate in captivity.

Good luck on your trip, and have fun!  :D

@FluffyMantidThanks. Already having fun with the planning and learning new things. Large new tent is in testing in yard last 6 days. Heavy spring storms and really heavy rains---dry as can be. Need cooler for food and not decided about cooking yet. Need to start long range planning soon for Sept-Nov if I want to try and get tent site reserved in some places. Bit too old for back packing anymore so car camping it is.

Yeah, in U.S. My '92 Honda wagon is just about broken in with 153k miles but land bound darn it. LOL

I don't have enough knowledge to direct you anywhere, but it sounds like a really fun trip that you're planning.  You'll have to keep us updated when you have access to the internet.  :)
