So I found a wild female European mantis (religoso) and she was fine the night I caught her (last night). I put her in a exo Terra and when I woke up this morning she was hanging onto a branch with just her raptors. Is she hurt? She looks like she's just fine but seems almost paralized. She is super fat and making weird movements with her abdomen. I posted this on Instagram and some people say she is about to lay an ooth or scenting. But whenever I try to handle her she like freezes up and when I put her into the exo Terra the same thing happens. Is she scared?

It does not sound like normal behavior nor does it sound like she is making an ooth. I am not sure what "scenting" is. She may be dying but from what is hard to say.

I think he means releasing hormones to attract mates.

But if she's only holding on by raptoral legs then that's not a good sign at all. They don't lay ooths or attract males while doing that.
