Thanks the tank dimensions are 30cm high and 20cm deep and wide. I like orchid mantids but I also like cryptic and ghost mantis which one do you think would do better in that tank size. I am going to clean out the tank before the mantis goes in and obviously set it up to there needs from Tom

It's a bacteria infection that they get in their stomachs and its usually started by one cricket eating a cricket that has died. Silent and brown crickets are less prone to the infections where as black crickets and your standard crickets are much more likely to contract the infection. From Tom

Yeah a bad batch of crickets killed 9 of my animals in 3 days. I know it was the crickets because the animals dying where the animals that were feeding on crickets. When I realised what it was I changed some of the other animals over to mealworms and they were fine and I had no more deaths...

I think it mainly depends on the crickets health because crickets and mantids are quite closely related if a cricket has a infection and it gets eaten by the mantis the mantis then inherits that infection because they are so closely related. Although eating one cricket might not kill the mantis...

This is the finished project. I am pretty happy about it but I feel like it's missing something. What do you guys think from Tom.

I was thinking for humidity what I would do is spray the grass and then that can increase humidity and give the mantis something to drink off of and that's how they would get their water in the wild. Thanks for the comments from Tom

I'm glad that you think it looks nice because I wanted to create a habitat that is function for the mantis but also something nice for me to look at. The plants are called dwarf hairgrass, they are aquatic plants but I decided to put them in the sand instead as I know the Egyptian mantis comes...
