    Terrarium Cleanup Crew?

So I've fed mealworms to my mantis and a few times I've dropped them because they're so hard and squirmy. As soon as I try to get them the little buggers have already burrowed and since I have quite deep substrate I'd never get them back. Anyway I've been feeding the mantis for about two weeks...

How do you prompt your mantis to crawl onto your hand?

Once I open the lid he'll either climb up but other than that a gentle nudge of his rear abdo is usually enough to get him to walk.

    Made it to Adulthood!

Thanks I was thinking the same to be honest. I don't mind having a male, I mean the shorter lifespan sucks -I'm just bummed out because I paid a premium for a female from the breeder. Ahh well.

    Made it to Adulthood!

Thanks! Except for night when they go jet black, yeah they're always that green. It always focuses on me when I pass the enclosure.

    Made it to Adulthood!

Just taken a picture of the abdo and its the best one I could take given the circumstances.

    Made it to Adulthood!

I can finally say I've raised my first mantis to adulthood and I'm chuffed. I adore the green accent colours on Chinese Mantids and was enthralled watching its wings inflate. Gave it two days and it annihilated a wax worm within a few minutes of snatching it from me. Hooowever, I'm still...

    What's on the menu?

That was one of the Small White Butterfly caterpillars

    Tarantulas

I love your setup. What tank is that? I'm not up to having large Ts but I'm fascinated by them. I'm getting my foot in the door by looking for a Pumpkin Patch T (small) at some point.  Speaking of dwarf Tarantulas, are there any that could thrive in a setup like that or are they all webby-webby?

    Occasional shivers

    Thanks, I'm glad.

    Occasional shivers

It's hard to really describe. Kind of like the shivers you get after a jumpscare or listening to a piece of music that you really enjoy when your hair stands up It just seems so bizzarre as I'd associate that behaviour with vertibrates. There must be a different reason behind it but its uncanny.

    Occasional shivers

Does anyone's mantis ever shiver for a second or so as if she's got the heeby jeebies or had an icecube on their back? I'm not concerned mine is dying as she's been doing it since I got her I just wanted to know if it was normal behaviour.

    What's on the menu?

Mine feeds on a staple of grass fed locusts with a mealworm treat. Before and after her L5 molt she loved white butterfly caterpillars that hitched a ride oj my mint plant so she stank of mint sauce for a few weeks.

    Boo

Thanks that meals a lot to me. I love the succulents, they look so alien and easy to keep and also took some inspiration from the Paramonian temple from Abe's Oddysee (my locust enclosure below encapsulates that more). There's enough ventilation at the top as I've drilled holes and my mantis...
