Pine molted again yesterday. He's looking pretty good, and I'm going to feed him tonight. I will be posting pictures when he gets a little bigger.

Pine the Carolina Mantis and His Life

Hey everyone! Sorry I haven't been posting for a while, I've been busy and I haven't had anything mantis related happen, but recently, I had an ootheca hatch from Stagmomantis carolina. Only five have hatched in a little over a month, which is surprising. Only one has survived, Pine, a little...

    Another New Lizard!

Hello all! On Sunday, I got a new lizard, an Brown Anole named Stripes. He is about 6 inches long. He was kind of an unexpected pet. His dewlap is beautiful. It is red-orange with a yellow border. Here is a picture of him.

I have four other inverts. My Mexican Fireleg Tarantula, Hookfang, my Marbled Orbweaver, Lady Halloween, and my Giant Leopard Moth Catterpillar, Sr. Moustache. I also have a Spitting Spider, Whitney. I hope that you all like the pictures.

    What's your least favorite insect?

I'm pretty much fine with almost all insects. I'm fine with crickets and roaches, but not mosquitoes or biting stable flies. I'm fine with horseflies, but not those other biting flies!

Cloud the Dinosaur King's Mantis Collection

Sadly, they didn't have any mantids at Repticon. I am hoping to get a pair or ootheca of Deroplatys desiccata soon though. I'm not sure where I'll get them however.

Hello. Does anyone have or know where I could get any member of the genus Choeradodis? I love these mantids, and I would love to own one. Thanks.

Cloud the Dinosaur King's Mantis Collection

Hello. As of now, I have no mantids, but I do have a Stagmomantis carolina ootheca and 4 back up oothecas in my yard just in case this one doesn't hatch. This weekend I am getting some new pets, a few mantids, a Green Basilisk lizard, and hopefully a Whipspider. I am going to get whatever they...

Can someone ID this species for me?

I highly doubt that this is a Mantis religiosa. I'm pretty sure that this is a male Iris oratoria judging that the wings don't cover up the entire abdomen and also the stripes on the wings. Although it could be a male Stagmomantis californica because of the black stripes on the top of the...

How did YOU get into mantids?

My dad had three Mantis religiosa when he was a kid, and I found a subadult female Stagmomantis carolina on the side of my house that I named Superclaw(I was 7!). I had her for 2 months before she got killed by a bumblebee. It just kind of went on from there.

Mantis not moving her raptorial arm.

I have had several mantids who have lost movement in their raptors. I think some sort of an injury caused it. Once, my female Stagmomantis carolina got bit in the raptor by a Meadow Katydid, and lost the ability to move it. As far as healing goes, I'm not sure how to heal it.

    Horsehair Worms

Hey, has anyone had a mantis with horsehair worms? I think I might have had one, but before I could find out, she fell off of my hand(she was very clumsy) and my chickens ran over and ate her. R.I.P.

    Hello from California

First off, welcome to the forum! Second, she seems to be a either a Stagmomantis californica or a Stagmomantis limbata. I would need a close up picture of just the face to be certain.

Hope you all had a safe and good weekend.

I am still waiting until the first weekend of November when I get my Green Basilisk. Other than that, I had a great weekend. I found a lot of cool animals including a Giant Leopard Moth caterpillar who I call Sr. Mustache. He is adorable!
