Since the nights started heating up, we've had a mysterious explosion in the moth population around our house, so while I was out hunting for a special treat for the mantises, I saw this little guy hanging out above our door. Not sure what he is, but I thought you'd enjoy him as much as I did! :)

Hi, I've got some wingless D. Melanogaster fruit flies. It's an old culture that I've had since 4/11, but there's still plenty to at least start a new culture if you want them, or I could do it for you in a 20 oz. water bottle. My mantises are growing out of fruit flies. Heh.

That is so weird! One of my L3 Chinese nymphs did something similar. His forelimbs were all stretched out and I thought "well that's weird, is he ok?" As I opened the lid to the tank, he was knocked down and looking lifeless. In fact, he stretched himself out so he looked like a little brown...

With every day fruit fly meals, mine shed a week after they hatched, some a couple days later. Out of the 24, though, 16 survived.

Wow. I saved that pic, it was just too neat looking. I think the background really makes it pop, and the way my eye kind of follows the flowers down the mantis. Sheesh. I'm impressed.
