    Downed but not out

When this female had a bad molt I thought that was it for her, especially after reading all the stories about other mantids that fell while shedding. I was pretty surprised the next day when I saw that she had climbed to the top of the enclosure considering that she only had one good walking...

    Bad molt issues

Damn, she only had 1 shed left before being in the clear, soooo close. I found my Chinese today, currently an L7, with 3 bent legs. The front forelegs are fine and so is the right middle but the other 3 are bent near the joints. Besides that she seems fine. My question is, would there be any way...

    Areas to molt from

What positions would a molt be possible from? I know hanging upside down is one, but what about while clinging to a vertical surface like a wall with a cork bark slab?

    Housing and molting height

I can't believe how big this girl is getting. Only a month ago she was an L3 and barely 1". Now she's an L5 and closer to 3". I thought it'd be at least another month until she shed again since the last one was only 2 weeks ago. Didn't even know she was gonna shed, guess it's a good thing I...

    Recent molt

So my mantis shed over the weekend. Finally lol I thought she'd only grow a little bit. I wasn't expecting her to double in size from 1" to 2". Amazing how they fit the new exo-skeleton into the older, smaller one.

Getting a mantis on to other prey items

I don't know why, but my chinese mantis doesn't seem interested in food, at least if he has to catch them herself. Twice now I've thrown in small roaches in her enclosure and I know she sees them but she hasn't eaten any. I assume she may just not be hungry. When I offer the roaches and...

    Signs of molting and humidity

So I think it's safe to say that I've read most of the care sheets on mantises online, even ones in different languages. A lot of them say the easiest way to tell is that the mantis will ignore or even chase away prey and that it will start hanging upside down. Are there any other ways to tell...

    Live from the Capitol

Hey what's up? I'm Drake and I'd say I'm a beginner mantis keeper. I've had some in the past but that was a while back. I've been keeping fish and reptiles for years though including some really exotic ones so the info and equipment from that hobby has helped with this one. I'm from California...
