hi all,

I have noticed that my orchid mantis eyes keep changing colour from almost deep red/purple to sometimes all white with a hint of purple?

Why is this? Is this normal?

Matt

Sometimes mantises like tenodera sp have their eyes change colors at night and dusk. Maybe your orchid is doing the same.

My mantises' eyes turn red at night. I just assume it helps with their night vision or something. Can someone explain?

in my experience mantids see horribly in the dark. I think they mostly use their antennae and feel around. I do think their eyes adjust, almost like when a pupil dilates in the dark. Only, for a mantid, its not a pupil. Probably equivalent to like a thousand pupils on one eye lol.
