How do you sex a mantis?

You count the segments in the abdomen. But for more and better info, use the search feature.

Not sure i'm the best person to give an answer on this as i am relying on people helping me sex my orchids at the moment, but the exact answer varies from species to species, the segments on the abdomen is always a good thing to check, others like ghosts have a wider prothorax on females, and some flower mantis have a horn between the eyes on females but not on males.

Please if i am wrong on any of these examples correct me.

Also people have been very good helping me sex my young orchids, so if you can take photos of them often ou'll be able to be advised of the sex, hope this was of some help.
