they have already begun laying ooth and had not yet mated.

I now have a 4 males
and want to know if they)the females about to lay) can produce fertile eggs-

I plan to separate the females out ;as only 2 of 14 have lain ooths as of yesterday-

I would watch for the singled out females to lay -then introduce the male-

or
can they (the other females that are getting quite big/full of eggs)
still fertilize eggs that are forming even now?

if I pair them up with a male-(they could lay any day now)

meaning is it to late to try mate them
and I should wait until 1st ooth is laid
and then pair them?

You can mate them anytime. unmated of course won't hatch so keep them separate for ones that get mated. Spray them a few times a week with old or purified water.
