Do the dynastes have a glossy dark sheen to them when they are damp? If so, that might work for me. I am hoping to get a beetle with the same darkness as the mazama but with horns like dynastes. I guess I could retouch it. Thanks for the info, Orin.

I have 3 male adults, 1 female sub adult and a new female adult that just molted this morning. How soon should I attempt mating? A few days? a couple of weeks? Thanks, Chris

i was lucky enough to get some Idolomantis and Ghost mantids from yen before he retired. :D I really hope I can raise them to adulthood. I started with 4 idolomantis and 4 ghost mantis. Now I have 3 idolo and 2 ghosts. Here they are so far.

I got a pair of Orchids from the same hatch some time ago. I generally fed both the same amount and treated both the same. About 3 weeks ago, the male reached adulthood. At that point, I started over feeding the female knowing she had an extra stage compared to the male. I may have lost count...

How difficult is it to get this species in the USA? What is the average price for nymphs? How about subadults and adults?

it seems like most people I buy from use USPS. ANy reason for that? What about FEDEX or UPS?

I've tried a few things but no luck so far. I've tried using a mirror in front of her and I also taunted her with a stick. :shock: Stroking her wings doesn't do a thing either.

I see photos of mantids with threat poses. Was it just luck or can they be "trained" to do it on command?

What causes a mantis to go into threat pose? I've had two adult mantises so far (California and Perviuan) and I never see them go into a threat pose. Is there any way I can excite them into doing this?
