    Bug Fairs/ Shows

There was the reptile supershow in pamona just a few months ago. I went. It was hot, crowded, no mantises. Was a bust. Don't know about shows, been looking for something for a while now but I've come up empty. Maybe we could start our own california bug show :P

Mantis Hobby interferes with Family Life Support Group

Here here! My GF has gotten really jealous and thinks I spend too much time with them. She complains when I take pictures of them and not enough of her lol. Regular people just don't understand! It's not that we like our families less. They're just not mantises!

    Nearly a disaster!

Just went to pick up my new L5 Hierodula Majuscula and she just went limp in my hands. She's been due to molt for a while now and I realized exactly what was happening! Thank GOD I checked on her because she was hanging off the side of her enclosure!! And I know that usually spells disaster for...

How long for a Ghost Mantis to grow to adult?

Sorry it's L8. The breeder who gave me my mantis informed me it's L8 not L7.

How long for a Ghost Mantis to grow to adult?

I have a ghost. She molted into an L3 on July 3rd and I believe she's close to her final molt; anytime now. Her wing buds are very swollen as well as her abdomen. So it will be almost exactly 3 months for her to go from L3 to L7 which is the final instar for ghosts. This is just my experience...

    No ooths?

Well at least she's still alive and seems to have a quality of life!

    Next Choice

Oooh! Cool! I've seen shield mantises before but never thought about getting one. How big do they get?

    Small low-maintenance species?

I am new to this hobby but from what I've kept, a ghost mantis might be a great candidate. Just make sure to offer him/her water every other day and throw some fruit flies in their enclosure every 3-4 days misting every 3-5 days and they'll do fine in my experience. They don't get too big...

Trouble getting S. Limbata to lay

I have a wild S. Limbata that is obviously gravid and I am having trouble getting her to lay. Any advice on the conditions that S. Limbata prefer for laying their ooth?

This camouflage is almost unfair lol

It's very exciting!  It's like finding little treasures. The first time I found a bunch, the kid in me was like. "Why are these here? No one wants them? Well more for me!"

This camouflage is almost unfair lol

If you go hunting for wild mantids you learn to spot them really quick. But it took my girlfriend,  who hasn't gone mantid hunting a minute to find her lol. What's her name again, dazz?

    No ooths?

But she's still alive? Any lethargy?

Found a cache of wild S. limbata

Nono!  Not a classified. More of a news thing and an experiment! Well see... I've never mated mantises before and so.. I'm gonna see if I can do it IF I can get her to lay. I have a male I found last week. I gotta get her to lay her ootheca first. I made a new habitat just for her with...
