    MikhailsDinos

All purchases have gone perfectly except for a USPS mess up, no fault of Mikhail. The Heirodulas, Ghosts, and Budwings (which he sent as a big surprise bonus) are all doing well. I am using this shipper for the fourth time. Highly recommend. Edit: This morning, my newest pets, the Double...

    Random Orchid deaths?

Ranitomeya, What sugar solution? Just for orchids? How do you provide this? Just curious because I hadn't read anything about sugar solution before this. Nancy

Some molted skin stuck on Heirodula L4

Hey all, Thank you all for your suggestions to help. I really have appreciated all the input and I know you all care about each and every mantid you have touched or you wouldn't have bothered. In spite of everything, he (Humpy) was not thriving enough to carry on and I felt worse trying to...

Some molted skin stuck on Heirodula L4

Well, he's still alive ten days after his mis-molt but I wouldn't say he is thriving. Even with the magnifier, I can't tell if his mouth opens and that is the clincher. I just don't have enough hands or good enough eyes! Ah, I'll get out my headlamp tomorrow! Wish I'd thought of it before...

    Questions about dubia colony

Salmonsaladsandwich, Okay, I'll add turning over the cage to my growing list of how to persuade a mantid to eat a boring roach. I got the sarcasm but my tongue-in-cheek mustamissedamark :stuart: And, I did not for a minute think you actually meant watermelon would make them pregnant...

    Questions about dubia colony

Wait! I thought mantids loved these roaches! And I thought they were a good one to raise since they don't climb. (I can handle an escaped fly but I'd be in deep trouble if I "lost" a roach!) I don't mind handing my mantids food (whole or all mixed up) with tweezers or putting the mantid in a...

    Questions about dubia colony

I just cleaned my small dubia colony. I read that you shouldn't have too many adult males as they fight and disrupt the females. I have about 200 roaches total (100 sub-adult and adult, and 100 purchased nymphs 3/4" and under.) So I counted the adult males as I moved them---43 adults, now 37...

    Cleaner beetles over-taking Dubia roaches

S.S.S. and Mantidbro, So, I got an answer from ABDragons.com where I got my Dubia and "cleaner beetles." S.S.S., the beetles are the adult of Tenebrio obscurus or minimealworms. Apparently, baby lizards love them but I don't have any (although I have a grandson who really is pushing me to...

    Cleaner beetles over-taking Dubia roaches

Ugh! So I bought some "cleaner beetles" (buffalo beetles?) to put in the Dubia roach bin. I read they wouldn't bother the roaches. I know that I sometimes get a couple of the beetles or larva in the wax worms I order so I thought maybe everyone uses them in their feeder insects. All was well...

Some molted skin stuck on Heirodula L4

rbird, I think I got the molt off---at least there's nothing hanging anymore. He can pick up his head now and turns to watch me (which is better that having his face planted on the floor!) He drinks water and I can see his mouth moving a bit, but does it open? Don't know. His left grabber arm...

Some molted skin stuck on Heirodula L4

Rick, my initial response when he arr. on Thurs. was like-minded but I was stopped by family as I headed to the freezer. mantisman 230, I get not wasting it, but it just feels like promoting cannibalism and feels creepy. Tammy, yes, I fed Gerber baby chicken to an old T. sinensis for months as...

    Stagmomantis limbata (?)

rbird, Sorry you lost her but she really was a survivor and you did a fine job getting her so far that she laid a couple of ooths. I hope you get get nymphs.

Some molted skin stuck on Heirodula L4

My H. membranacea molted in transit and is a mess! His thorax is humped badly so his face drags which makes it hard to try feeding him honey or baby meat, his grabber arms are pretty much useless---don't know why, and he can only scuttle backwards. He still has unmolted skin stuck under his...

    My first mantis Susanna died

Oh, I am so saddened to hear that Gizmo has passed! We loved (and laughed) at her playing video games---can't tell you how many times we re-played them! Thank you so much for having such acceptance for a mantis that just jumped out of a box of lamps! I think you and your gf are very special...

Repashy Ventures Inc. Superfood Products (Bug Burger, SuperFly, etc)

Hey, I bought some of this Repashy bug Burger a couple of days ago. My Dubia roaches (couple hundred) never seemed to eat, except for roach jelly and grapes. Their dry chow (I have offered three kinds, incl. dry cat food.) never seemed to be eaten. So, I offered them a patty from the first...

    Parasphendale agrionina vs affinis

She ate a BB fly today---I had to hand it to her after I messed it up a bit...but it works. Thanks! Salamanders??? I take it yours was an adult? Even if mine is possibly an L6 now, she is still so dainty and fragile looking! There is a photo of a pair of affinis in Orin's book--they look...
