You know you love mantids when...

    WOOHOO! My First Ootheca!

My miracle mantis, Martina (Hierodula Majuscula), laid her first ootheca last night! After exactly 10 weeks of handfeeding her and giving her extra special care, she managed to lay the ootheca with no troubles at all. I never thought I'd get her this far, and I certainly couldn't have done it...

    Ghost seems weak

You seem to have done the best you can to resolve the issue, and while I think she will require a lot of care to help her regain her strength (she may not be fully functional), she should be still able to mate and probably produce ootheca. My mantis became quite crippled and damaged from her...

    Giant Rainforest Mating

Try again tomorrow. You should try not to move them or create any distractions during this time as it can make them nervous and not want to mate. Sometimes, the male gets a little confused and is unable to mate, and he thinks that if he tries to get off her then he'll become her next meal, so he...

    Blister on eye?

As MantisMatt14 mentioned, be careful when feeding crickets to your mantis. Depending on where you are, I would advise catching moths, flies or roaches if possible. If this is not an option for you, I've heard that you should keep crickets for up to a week while feeding them your own food to...

Haha, that's a great story! What did you end up doing with all of the boxes?

    Blister on eye?

Hi there, mantids become adult when their wings are fully grown. At the moment, they are only buds and I would say her next molt might be into adulthood.

Comment by 'Machinar94' in media 'Mismolted Female Hierodula Majuscula'

I think so too idologrl, all the time I have spent bonding with her (cleaning, feeding and helping her) has shown me a completely different, innocent side of the mantis and brings out so much personality in her. I feel a connection with her as she would not be alive without me and I would not be...

    Vomiting Problem

Sorry, the cockroach species is Periplaneta Australasiae (Australian Cockroach). Thanks for the advice, I'll start with small amounts of food and see how she goes.

    Vomiting Problem

Krissim Klaw, I normally give her a full size roach (which she normally only eats half of) each morning and night.

    Vomiting Problem

It's kinda light brown/clear with black specks in it, and a little bit smelly. Sometimes its just a little spit up but most of the time she'll puke a fair bit up for at least 5-10 minutes.
