Huge die off in first three days

Well, it looks like my corrective actions have had the desired effect. No more die offs. I have ~10 left fomr the initial hatch, and they're doing quite well - eating well, and scurrying all over the place. Hopefully I'll be able to breed the small population I have left, and give it a second...

    So excited! someone fan me

Rebecca, that's AWESOME! Congratulations! Have you SEEN idolo ooths? I saw two at Pauls house (spent ones) - they freaking enormous! Who asked how long they are? I forget - but I think they meant how big are they. If memory serves (and I actually saw Pauls idolo's in person, perhaps even...

Is there a way to get a mantis to flare up?

ROTFLMAO! That is just WRONG! but funny

Hmmm... Do you have a membership to a photo-sharing site like photobucket? If the forum upload facility isn't working for you (I've never used it - didn't even know you could DO that directly. So I'm no help), then perhaps uploading via a third party is the way to go. Then you just have to...

    Releasing exotic species?

Put it this way... If you release exotic mantids.... WE just might relase the NINJAS, and point in your direction...   :shuriken:

    species Q.

Don't the unicorns live in AZ, too? That one would be easy to ID, even without a pic.

+2 Also, could you please slow down and use the occasional punctuation? It's tough to read a stream-of-consciousness like that. Cheers!

Huge die off in first three days

Hey Rebecca, They seemed to eat the hydea just fine - I think, in retrospect, the big culprit was the lack of misting. I misted them in the evening, and they just dried out by the next evening. Actually, I think even more important is that I forgot to make sure the medium was moist....that...

    Mantids flock to me :)

Hey, if the shoe fits..... :P My wife thinks I'm stark raving nuts. Not only do I like the mantids....I also have a large collection of carnivorous plants. And I'm known to pick up and examine pretty much any critter that strays onto my property (or in front of me, or really anywhere in...

Huge die off in first three days

Thanks - not like I had ROOM for that many mantids, but it is a drag nevertheless... I COULD have sold or traded them...Oh, well...live and learn. Next time I will do better.

Huge die off in first three days

Thanks. We'll see what happens now. There are significantly fewer, and I've improved conditions. I don't think it was the food thing....they got a good stuffing of FF's.

Huge die off in first three days

It seems that I've suffered an over 70% die off on my H. multispina L1's since it hatched on Sunday. I'm not sure why....Or is this normal for this species? Are the nymphs that fragile, or did I set something up wrong? Temps: mid - high 70's (possibly 80) misted every day - one cage did dry...

    I saw some....

Ha! My wife has a tough enough time with me keeping the mantids (though she handled the last escape fiasco very well). If I tried to keep 1000 crickets, I think I might get the "either they go, or I go." Hopefully I wouldn't delay in my choice....

    Idolomantis diabolica

Are you sure the female is ready? Doesn't it take while before the start emitting pheremones? I would think if she "smelled good," he would jump right on. I have VERY little experience breeding, but my ONE success was when I took them both out of their cages, and put them on a...

    learned an important lesson today

I know what you mean! I was so careful....even my kids (6 and 3) were so careful....I think we had two casualties. That's not bad, especially working with a 3 year old! My kids rock. B)

    Whoo baby Snatchers!!!!

Any idea how often we can see "runts?" I ask because I have a wild chinese female that lives in my garden....I don't even think she makes 3." Now, she is missing one arm, so perhaps because she didn't get as much to eat, but I don't THINK that's it. I've seen her eating plenty of times. It...

    Street Surprise.

My family and I saw that out on Fire Island - the vicitim of a bike tire. It was being taken away by a bird, so at least it wasn't going to waste. Does still suck, though.
