    Damian Zielinski - leviatan

Bought an ooth from Damian. After it did not arrive in the mail (problems with the postal service) I helped pay for shipping for another ooth. The ooth came well packed. I would definitely purchase from Damian again. Hopefully the ooth will hatch well. I will definitely keep you posted! (=

Temperature for House Fly (Musca Domestica) pupae

Thanks everyone - I think I found the problem. Some of the immature larvae were turning into pupae too soon, so I just left them in my outdoor rearing container longer and they are all starting to hatch out now (indoors). Yea!!!! I have about 40 adult flies chillin in the fridge now. If the...

    Molting too low?

That is some sound advice, Rick and Lame. As my little Ghost mantids got bigger I removed all the other bushy-type material and hot-glued sticks to the top screened area. I had better do the same for one of my other containers soon!

    My little orchid ooth hatch

Great. Just curious. I have heard that a diet including pollen is very helpful for the adult female of this species to produce ootheca with high hatch count.

    Outdoor Fly Rearing/Collecting Project

Dear Thomas, Thanks for the compliments, though I feel there is a lot more research that can be done to make fly rearing viable for the everyday hobbiest. Houseflies require protein, fiber and certain strains of bacteria in their cultures. I was told by one company that they reared their flies...

    Outdoor Fly Rearing/Collecting Project

As part of getting back into the hobby I have been experimenting with an outdoor fly attracting/raising enclosure. Here is an account of my experience. I attract a lot of flies each day - enough to feed all my mantids. I also culture enough larvae to supply me for a while - if I could ever...

No Thomas - I don't. However, my mantis area currently saturated. My current species are a little more friendly (boys in one enclosure and girls in another). (=

Temperature for House Fly (Musca Domestica) pupae

Hmm. I have been keeping them at 80 degrees F in the mantid enclosures and they have not been hatching. Is this too hot for them?

Temperature for House Fly (Musca Domestica) pupae

Hi everyone! Quick question: What is the optimal temperature and humidity for house flies to hatch from their pupae form?

Simple drosophila (fruit fly) containers using Gatorade bottles.

It is just my opinion, Rick - but the deli cup cloth lids eventually need to be replaced which adds a little extra cost, the opening has both more control in feeding mantids and in having flies crawl up and out and if I need extra containers I can usually find people around me who were planning...

Egyptian Pygmy mantis (Miomantis paykullii) Hatched - ooth 15

I always fed by baby Egyptian mantises the D. melongaster (spelling?) and never had issues. Yes - they are small - but most Egyptian mantises have spunk and a will to live! This is definitely a fun species as some of them are real characters. (=

Simple drosophila (fruit fly) containers using Gatorade bottles.

Thanks Thomas! My experience is that these have been a lot more simple than the deli cups.
