    How often to feed Manis

Bug, It depends on the species, instar and environment. Also depends what you mean by a "few" days. Most mantids can go for a week without food and survive. Water can be just (if not, in a few cases, more) as important. You can place them in a cooler environment (~ 65 deg F) which will slow...

    Downed but not out

Drake, Seba - one of my Tenodera sinensis females - had a mismolt that left her in a very similar condition to this girl. Her wings were badly deformed and "crumpled" and both back legs were badly crippled. But her head, thorax, raptors and abdomen were fine. After about 15 days, I decided to...

Tangerine. Now you know. Don't forget to give them H2O regularly ! Lightly mist the enclosure 3 or 4 times a week. Make sure the enclosure is well ventilated so the water doesn't sit and promote mold and bacteria. If you have the time, spray droplets on your hand and he/she may drink...

    getting labels off plastic jars

Steve, I've stopped using adhesive labels altogether. Instead, I just write with a Sharpie directly on the container surface; including Kritter Keepers. When it's time to remove the writing, simply wet a paper towel with some 91% Isopropyl alcohol and ZIP -- off it comes, clean as a whistle.

    Farewell To Franklin

Hi Orin, That would be the square of the length mantid's antennae multiplied by the breathing rate over 11.224 seconds ÷ (4×6[instars]) x sq root of 14.

    Look What I Made !!

Despite her being crippled from a bad molt, proud Seba - T. sinsensis - shows off her first ootheca. I couldn't have been more delighted in that she laid it perfectly square on a cross-beam Popsicle stick. I gave her a Mouse Cream Cone (beheaded Darkling Beetle pupae), dipped in honey as a reward.

Can I gutload my crickets with flukers?

Flukers will be fine. After all, that's what it's made for. I've used it for years to gutload, also adding oatmeal and fish food flakes. Also just discovered today they are WILD for collard greens.

    Throwing Up?

SS: No attack inferred :) My observations regarding carrots and adverse effects on mantids are just that - repeated observation with similar and repeated results. It should be noted, these personal observations have only been with Tenodera sinensis. This is not the result of a scientific...
