Why no Mantis religiosa in Southeastern United States?

Where did you read that M. religiosa did not need a cold period?

    Litaneutria interest

You mean in terms of feeding them? Maybe some other feeder that's small enough? I've raised ground mantids (caught in Las Vegas) from 2nd instant to adult. They're really easy BUT like you said that first instar is murder.

    Litaneutria

Selling Litaneutria sp mantids. First come first serve. They're nymphs ranging from sub adult to maybe 2 or 3 molts back from reaching adulthood (if that makes sense). Pm me if interested to discuss price + shipping. Edit: forgot to mention, selling only. I'm studying abroad in Singapore next...

    Litaneutria interest

Pretty much. And I don't want to collect a bunch and then not have people interested or vice versa. The turn out on this thread has given me incentive to collect them, so thanks everyone for the response. Prices are totally negotiable, especially depending on the quantity and instar (of course...

    Litaneutria interest

Hi everyone, wasn't quite sure where I should post this, so I'll get to the point. I'm planning a trip tomorrow to a location where I find a lot of Litaneutria sp. So I was trying to get a good judge on how many people would be interested in them (I know some were last year). Last year I made...

    Ukmantis Newsletter

Hi Rick, it's through the university. I have grant money to pursue a research topic of my interest, and I've always been interested in the interactions between the natives and non-natives. Not much as been researched between the two. Gill posted the Iris and Stagmomantis paper. I actually went...

    Ukmantis Newsletter

Hi, I'm currently doing a study on the impact of introduced, naturalized species of mantids on native species. Naturally, before I started my research I compiled a list of existing articles that deal with the subject. I came across the antenna blurb that Lawrence Hurd wrote (that was cited in...

What type of mantis is this?

Sometimes it takes a couple of instars to see the orangish dot. With a brown mantis like that, it may be a tan dot. I'll say it agaaaiiin, Iris oratoria.
  18. M

What type of mantis is this?

Personally, I've never found them in Las Vegas in the 10+ years I was there. I say Iris.
  19. M

    Found another mantis!

THat looks more like Litaneutria than stagmomantis, guys.

What type of mantis is this?

By your location, it looks like Iris oratoria. But a better picture would confirm.
