Is there anything to pay attention to when raising the Hymenopus coronatus ?

Oh, yes. I just noticed that they are charging over night shipping for crickets now. They didn't do that a month ago. Fluker's farm had a live arrival guarantee for shipping crickets by 2-3 Day Priority Mail last Thanksgiving when I ordered from them. I found someone that did the cheaper...

Is there anything to pay attention to when raising the Hymenopus coronatus ?

I have read about people using apple to flush out the bad stuff from their pet store bought crickets before feeding to their pets. But with a vomit sensitive species of mantis I still worry it could be dangerous even with flushing out the bad stuff in the cricket guts. You can probably tell...

Is there anything to pay attention to when raising the Hymenopus coronatus ?

Yes, I have had this happen with store bought crickets. I believe the crickets eat the rotting crickets in the pet stores and so the cricket's from there can be bad. They would kill my mantises and those cricket guts smelled bad when popped open. Some species of mantises are more hardy than...

Is there anything to pay attention to when raising the Hymenopus coronatus ?

I am wondering if it is inbreeding that might make them susceptible to vomiting. It is weird that they are so sensitive. It makes it hard to raise Orchid mantises. It is a very beautiful species, so I hope they are not really that hard to raise. I am now only misting a couple times as they...

Ok we need to fix this...

It does make sense that stress from too much heat was the reason why your females got egg bound. But you are right that it is too small of a sample size to be sure. All 3 or 4 of my Pseudoxyops perpulchra females were egg bound and didn't lay even when very fat. I gave one of the females...

Is there anything to pay attention to when raising the Hymenopus coronatus ?

Misting the Orchid nymphs water for them to drink has made some of them to throw up.

need help finding food for ghost mantis

My sub-adult male Ghost mantises actually took the small D. hydei fruit flies and ate enough of them to get fat. Right after molting the larger Ghost mantises may not take small D. hydei though. Not sure. I know that L5 P. wahlbergii nymphs wouldn't take D. hydei right after molting, and so...

    Hello from NY

Welcome! That is a European mantis. I have not seen those in person before. I read about them living in South Korea, but they are rare there and only in the southern parts so I didn't get to raise them. I always thought the European mantises were beautiful because of their translucent color...

    Hello from the China

Welcome to mantidforum. My name is Nathaniel. I grew up in South Korea, and come to the United States when I was 12 years old. I always liked insects since I was little and I first kept mantises in South Korea.

Is there anything to pay attention to when raising the Hymenopus coronatus ?

I had that trouble with vomiting black liquid for Orchid mantis nymphs. I think it is the temperature fluctuations that can cause it. So I am now keeping them at a steady temperature in my room with the heaters. I had the same problem of temperature fluctuation causing vomiting with my P...

    hierodula (U.S.)

I just did a trade with hierodula. It all went well! He was very nice and was quick to reply to all my questions. I was able to get Darth Vader mantises (Parablepharis kuhlii asiatica) from him, which are a rare species. I got 6 nymphs. He sent an extra Deroplatys truncata nymph, too, so I...

Looking for Theopropus and Chloroharpax modesta

Hi. I am looking for Chloroharpax modesta. I am also looking for Theopropus species. I prefer the orange underwinged ones, but clear underwinged ones are fine too. I have a lot of P. wahlbergii L5 nymphs at the moment that I could trade, and a lot of Texas unicorn nymphs and a few Ant mantis...

    Clear underwinged Pseudocreobotra amarae?

I just had a male P. wahlbergii molt to adult and he had clear hindwings. It was a male that skipped a molt. The clear underwings may be that it is recently molted, and the yellow/orange color of the underwings comes some time after molting.
