New mantids will be delivered while I'm at work

Yeh, from Patty. I think I'll get someone to pick up the package for me and place it in my room anyway - would you be worried about the package sitting in my room unopened? They can still breathe in there, right?

New mantids will be delivered while I'm at work

Is this a code red? I feel like if they sit in a parcel locker for longer than a few hours it'd be game over.. anyone have any advice? I live in an area that gets really hot, too. I could maybe have someone get the package for me?

How many mantids do you have?

mhm, the one I purchased them from seemed to be quite liked here (from mantidsgalore) - That being said, I dunno why it hasn't shipped yet. But It's probably normal.

    Huge absence/general questions

Well yeah, I make those questions based on the largest most aggressive species versus insects like the Assassin Bug. When I envisioned the fight, I mostly thought of a large mantis that is very hungry that could just chomp up an assassin bug within seconds. If not that, they'd probably severely...

How many mantids do you have?

Uhhh, I have none but two at the same time if it makes sense. I ordered two Chinese mantids last Thursday but they haven't shipped yet, so I don't know if that applies as having mantids or not :P   Not sure if I'd count them on their way either? I have no idea how long they take to ship, but...

    Huge absence/general questions

Are you sure? I've seen videos of Orchid Mantids eating those assassin bugs like no tomorrow.

    Coming along well.

I believe female Heirodulas still have larger wings overall! Well, at least, my pair of Giants did.

    Huge absence/general questions

I see, thanks! If you don't mind me asking, what type of insects would you feed an L3 nymph if you had to wild catch insects for them? Also, are assassin bugs/spiderlings good food for them? There's a lot of small spiders I encounter here that can potentially be good food. Small spiders have...

    Huge absence/general questions

How long did it take for them to arrive? In my example, I placed the order and paid yesterday.

    Huge absence/general questions

Back from work! Anywho, that's quite strange behavior... also, male chinese mantids? My male mantids tend to just cease all aggressive behavior after becoming adults pretty much. Oh also, you might know this, but I didn't choose the express shipping method when purchasing my two chinese mantids...

    Huge absence/general questions

Ahaha, I wouldn't feed a cicada to your mantis anyway. Not because cicadas pose a threat or anything to the mantis, they'd gladly take it, but the issue lies in the really annoying clicking noise the cicada will absolutely not stop making until the mantis eventually eats the gland or whatever...

    Huge absence/general questions

Yeah, if my Black Widows won't take milkweed bugs, I feel like mantids wouldn't either. Assuming that they eat similar things or have similar taste buds :P Anyway, would you feed your large mantids cicadas?  Edit: Upon further research, it seems to be because of Milkweed bugs feeding on...

    Huge absence/general questions

I see. Speaking of health risks (or maybe just general dislike) would it be a good idea to avoid feeding stink bugs to mantids? Also, milkweed bugs (small ones) seem to be hated by every animal I have - the scorpion won't eat it, and my widow spiders all envelop them in webs but then just toss...

Just ordered my first Mantis and have some questions about handling and feeding.

That looks like L2. Glad to know he arrived safely - I've got two chinese babies on the way as of typing this, so hopefully it goes as well for me. Sadly I don't have any fruit flies, but I could feed them small things I find outside instead.

    Huge absence/general questions

That's great - because honestly, it's much easier for me to just go out and catch some random insect during the day rather than buy feeder insects. That being said, does it not matter if you catch a green bottle fly that has potentially been walking all over dead animals/poo/garbage and your...

    Huge absence/general questions

Yep, I just picked up two of the Nymphs. Hopefully at least one of them is female - and I'm starting out with the Chinese mantids because I want something easy and ferocious! I should make posts about them. I didn't choose the overnight shipping option because it's quite expensive, but every...

    Chinese Mantids + questionable food

I have absolutely no doubt that these scorpions would be no match for the mantids because their pinchers are very slim, and these scorpions are also not much bigger than the average cockroach either. My main concern was if a mantis would bother eating it once it's caught - I've seen...

    Chinese Mantids + questionable food

I've heard and seen that this mantis is ridiculously aggressive and LARGE as well (So much so to the point where they've been videoed killing and eating Asian Giant hornets) so I was wondering if this species would be able to eat some scorpions that wander around where I live. They're obviously...

    Huge absence/general questions

Wow, I can't believe you actually bothered to give me this super amazing and detailed reply! I really appreciate this, especially the link to the websites that sell mantids (that specific one sells Chinese mantids for only a dollar? Wowzers!) I looked up mantids on iNaturalist in Las Vegas and...
