    gambian mantids not mating properly

now im confused. the female has laid a couple of gobs of stuff. this was strait after one of the 'non mating' events today. trouble is they dont look big enough for ooths really -about 3mm and look like random blobs of ooth gunk and not like the ooth i bought. could it be an ooth, do they lay em...

    HELP WITH IDOLOMANTIS NYMPHS!!!!

i dont see an issue with ebay. on the few occasions ive bought mantids ive never had a seller outside ebay ask me if i knew how to look after them and i cant see why an ebay seller wouldnt offer that information like any other. its just another venue, its conveinient, you get buyer protection...

    HELP WITH IDOLOMANTIS NYMPHS!!!!

i shouldnt worry if hatched on wednesday. they take a while to harden up, its the same after every moult. greater warmth will speed the process up. definitely worth getting the best set-up you can afford or make for those little devils. money should be no object for the king of mantids ...

    HELP WITH IDOLOMANTIS NYMPHS!!!!

wow im really envious - i want an ooth too. how long ago did they hatch; mantids dont start feeding immediately in my experience. it takes them a few days to get themselves together; they will just ignore the flies untill they are ready. the fruit flies should be ok to start with, they'll eat...

    gambian mantids not mating properly

maybe, the tip of her ab does sort of contract away from him and she stops opening those structures when he tries to connect. maybe they stay open when shes ready and hes just testing. age wise, i never made a note, but the female is abit older than male. she'd be getting well over a month as...

    gambian mantids not mating properly

he tried again today. thought he might succeed this time as she was doing an opening and closing movement with her private part things (whatever they are called) which she wasnt doing before. but still he couldnt manage to 'get jiggy' so to speak. the male appears to have a hook like structure...

    Silkworms?

i tried feeding them caterpillers, they dont like em much IMO. wouldnt it be more appropriate to feed matids the adult moths. trouble is they'd be quite seasonal ie you'd rear a batch which would take a few months, which would spin cocoons, wait for emergence which would be all at the same time...

    gambian mantids not mating properly

"I mated this species. How long did you leave them to work?" thanks for your reply, the males were mostly only on top for about half an hour before giving up. the one still alive was on top for a few hours last time, but i never witnessed mating. "Believe it or not, my male stayed 11 hours on...

    gambian mantids not mating properly

hi, i have 1 adult female gambian mantis (a very tiny but beautiful mantis with pointy alien eyes and red hind wings and abdomen as adult) and ive tried mating her with 2 males now. the problem is that both males didnt seem to actually link up, they just search around with the end of their...

    giant asian: grandis or membranacea?

some experts define two similar races as being distinct species if they are geographically seperated, say by mountains or river, and will not likely cross in the wild. this could be the case with these two mantids. or they have minor physical differences that the expert thinks warrants seperate...

    Fruit flies get everywhere. Suggestions?

are wingless fruit flies really half the size of winged ones? ive never heard that before, i thought the mutation was for wing structure not body size -_-
