This happened to me with multiple mantises but it wasnt so bad, it was like a tight squeeze and i freaked out, but i never seriously injured a mantis like that.

Welcome to he forum! I think the humidity was too high for them, causing breathing problems, leading to infections. (I’m not sure but that’s my guess)

i just keep a lamp on mine after a molt so they can dry faster.

Im just gonna guess sub adult. Your gonna see the wing buds get swollen then you know the big molt is coming up!
