Found two Mantis Oothecae on my front porch.

I don't much much about ooths and never even hatched one myself but I think it would be fine to take them in for the winter in the fridge if you want to keep a couple of the nymphs for spring but if not, then the ooths should be completely fine outside as they are adapted for this kind of cold...

    Connor's Mantis Collection

Thanks for posting more of the epaphrodita, there's almost no pictures of this species and I find them pretty interesting. They're like a shorter and stockier deroplatys.

Great collection! How can you take care of so many at once?  Also, you should post some more pics of that epaphrodita on a different post as they aren't just rare, I think they are actually completely new to the USA

What to do with newly laid egg sack...

The species of mantis you have is the European mantis. It's scientific name is mantis religosa. As for the egg sack, I think that if you found the mantis there then the eggs will be able to survive so it would be fine to put them outside. (But don't cover up the eggs as when they hatch they...

    Funniest mantis expirience

Hey everyone, what has been your funniest mantis expirience? Mine is either the time i was showing off a creobroter male to a friend and he started flying in circles around his head freaking him out or when my not very smart first mantis, stickylegs (weird name I know), grabbed a cricket and a...

    Orchid mantis!

Lol I know what you mean by destroying the food. When he was smaller there were always these giant moths outside of my house that had a wingspan 3x his length and were at least 2x the mass of him. I put one in his cage one day because I was low on food and wanted to see if he would even attempt...

    The genus Phyllocrania

I actually did see videos of p. Illudens on YouTube and they do seem to be at least a different subspecies (but I could be wrong) as there head crests are much longer and not as patterned as paradoxa. The leaf decorations on the body and legs are also smoother as well. Just search phyllocrania...

    Pulsing of back end

Usually the abdomen pulsing is just the mantis breathing though holes in its abdomen called spiracles. Mantises always do this and it's normal but I have heard that some other people on here notice the pulsing more when the mantis is about to moult

    LOST MANTIS!

    LOST MANTIS!

he escaped while I was at school because someone left his cage open. The doors were also open so he could be anywhere! Any suggestions about looking through a whole house instead of just one room?
