L2 Nymph feeding, food colony startup

Ok. Am I right in thinking that now they'll start eating maybe about 2 or 3 fruitflies daily until they're ready to molt again? They just gonna have a growth spurt in between?

L2 Nymph feeding, food colony startup

I meant starting colonies of Fruit flies to prevent ordering continuously since these guys will be eating those for quite some time. What would you recommend to break up the diet a little? Do you wait until their abdomen is as plump as the good you intend to feed it? What if it's the same...

    L2 mio nymph levelling up?

Is it safe to handle or just leave them for a day or so?

Are carrots safe to feed the insects we feed to mantids? Do I just need to buy one tub of mealworms, stick them in oatmeal and feed them carrot occasionally?

    L2 mio nymph levelling up?

Thank you. He made it fine. Little longer and brighter, but seems perfectly healthy. Happened really quickly too. Hope they start eating more now.

    L2 mio nymph levelling up?

That's awesome. That's the one I was worried about, but clearly was just prepping to molt. You know much about Fruit flies? I have another thread, need some urgent advice if you wouldn't mind checking it out :)

    Fruit fly advice

I got a fruitfly culture from livefoods direct on saturday, many have died off and I've been told I potentially have a mite infestation. Are there any guarantees or can this just happen? I have some culture kits on the way to keep it going, but if I use those, will I just infect the new culture...

    L2 mio nymph levelling up?

https://anonimage.net/image/1WSXxxJbYw I'm pretty sure one of my mios are starting to molt, that explains the very picky eating over the last few days. Then other is still ravenous and seems to be eating maybe 2 fruit flies a day.

    L2 Nymph feeding

How much should they be eating? I think they've only had 1, maybe 2 fruit flies a day so far. Always one left in the morning.

Also, can my L2/3 nymphs handle a wax worm, or mealworm? I think they would be an ideal easy food to breed for them.

L2 Nymph feeding, food colony startup

I would like to start a sustainable colony to keep a constant supply of food, rather than relying on them being delivered. What would you guys recommend? Sticking with fruitflies? Is there anything else that could be suitable?

Post photos here for the 2018 calendar

Wow, so many amazing photos. What do you guys use to shoot them? Seriously considering some upgraded kit, it's tricky to capture a good photo, especially L2 nymphs, but when you get a shot, there's so much detail. They really are miniature versions of their adult selves. Do you guys use macro lens?

    L2 Egyptian Mantis

https://anonimage.net/image/BRkMyU73Fa Little tricky to get good photos of mio nymphs one handed without a macro lens, but I took a 4K video and took screenshots of the clearer ones. These guys close up will alter your perspective on them, they have so much detail you can't see with the naked...

    Mantid treats

Yeah I figured I would have to ask the experts before feeding anything other than banana or honey. I was just curious to see what people gave them, I had even heard of chocolate but thsts loaded with and I doubt it would be wise to feed them that.  How about vegetables? Anything watery and not...

    Hypothetical Ooth tips

That's pretty awesome.y guys are l2, so they should be molting within a week or 2 I imagine. It's every couple of weeks as a nymph isn't it?

    Hypothetical Ooth tips

Thanks. How many would that be suitable for, approximately?

    Hypothetical Ooth tips

My bad. I didn't know mesh cages were so strong, can you send an Amazon link so I can check out the sturdy ones you mentioned please? I wouldn't mind breeding them when I'm experienced, I think it would be really cool to see them hatch, but if I got a few hundred I'd not have enough room for...

    Hypothetical Ooth tips

Firstly, I think you've misunderstood. I'm learning how to take care of my first 2 I just got, I'm not talking about getting any more, or egg sacs, not for a long time anyway, I'm simply asking hypothetically how people look after the potentially hundreds of hatchlings when they arrive. I...

    Hypothetical Ooth tips

I meant if you get an ooth from the mantids, or more than anticipated. Main point was the keeping of them once they hatch, so my guys could live together until they molt?
