    Is this a suitable enclosure?

Might be too big, you can still try though, but you'll have to always make sure they have eaten enough :)

    Is this a suitable enclosure?

The problem with big terras is they often don't really find their food, unless you plan to take them out a couple of times a day to feed them in a smaller enclosure. The first time I bought ghosts, I had 4 of them in a terra of 40x40x60, terra was cool but way too big. My thought was: they'll...

    Is this a suitable enclosure?

But tbh, 8 would be quite a lot in the terra I use right now, I have 6 now but 4 would've been fine aswell. They were quite active in the beginning and bumped into eachother all the time, luckily now they've gone a bit more quiet. Unless your terra is a lot bigger, I think 4 would be good to go.

    Is this a suitable enclosure?

I bought them from a german dude: https://www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/s-anzeige/phyllocrania-paradoxa-l1-bis-l4-gottesanbeterin/679228300-131-1049 They arrived in 3 days very well packaged, (photo below) He ships to Europe, but don't think he does to America, he has a very very good price, I...

    Is this a suitable enclosure?

Mine are now L5-L6, got 6 of them in the same terra. They like to hang at the top, but I keep that area for those who haven't eaten yet, because that's where all the flies always go. I simply put the fatties down on the plants and the hungries on the net :D

Got to watch a molt hat was successful!

Same, I'm always scared they'll mismolt even though they never did, well 1 time was close since a male ghost fell during the molt, he was like halfway. I took my tweezers and searched for the part of his abdomen that was already molted, pinched the tweezers over the molted skin and put a...

What do your friends and family think?

My gf used to hate all bugs, but recently she got curious about them and now thinks they are 'kinda' cute, my mother, brother and sister find them cool also. My father doesn't really care about them. People often wonder why I have so much interest in building vivariums with actual 'ecosystems'...

    Ants and isopods

I've had dozens of isopods walk around next to them, even when very hungry, they never try to eat them. I haven't tried ants though

in case of no flies left

So funny enough, I found a way to catch some flies pretty easy in case you ran out of them and your mantids need food pretty fast. Probably some of you already did this before but just posting it here for those who could use it. First, take your vacuum cleaner, put a sock over the top, use a...

3 terrariums... now to put which, where..?

Same thought, they are likely too big for L2/L3. If you put em in a cage that big, they should at least be able to eat bottleflies, so I'm thinking more L5/L6. I made the same mistake the first time I bought mantids, put L4's in a way too big terrarium and some of them died because they didn't...

    Temperature Casters

Hi, I just wanted to know at what temperature you keep your maggots and casters in the fridge. I kept them before in another fridge but didn't check at what temperature, don't want them to freeze to death now. The fridge is at 12°C atm.

    Small scale fruit fly culturing

Can't you just take the vent from the big lid, cut a piece out big enough for the smaller lid and put it on there?

Something coming out of mantis, please help

I don't know about the thing coming out of her, but the missing limbs are not necessarily because of the cricket. I've had a female ghost mantis eating her own limbs for no apparent reason, she had food and everything went fine untill I woke up one morning to her eating her front claw.

    Hierodula sp. Golden enclosure

I would make some kind of background or place some sticks that go vertically up to the ceiling. They like to hang there to molt, and they aren't very good glass climbers. Otherwise cool terra ^^

None of my bluebottle pupae are hatching...

I'd just order new ones from a different website in the meantime while you wait.Or maybe email the store you bought them from, asking if they actually still transform because some fishing shops freeze the pupae and I think they die in that process.

None of my bluebottle pupae are hatching...

You bought the pupae right? Not the maggot? If they only just transformed into pupae from maggot it takes about 2 weeks to turn into a fly. Mostly if you buy pupae they should hatch in 2-3 days. I haven't really known any case of a pupae not hatching. Unless if they were frozen or smth..
