    Idolomantis Consolidated

Maybe I should have messaged you(but people need to know) they can and really should have house flies at L2 and can even eat BB's now, I only use ff's for they're first few feedings at L1 then it's house flies and at L3 it's all BB's there up. They may be saying "where's the beef" lol as they...

    Idolomantis Consolidated

Looks great Sally! Be good to my babies ;) Mist every day and keep them warm(84-88), if your keeping them together feed them well, too many flies is better than not enough, they have been known to snack on a fellow molter if not tip top full in earlier instars. :)

    Dedicated Caresheets? (Brainstorming)

I would do a care sheet on Idolomantis even though we did one already, it is very long and many pages. I've kept them in culture for over 2 years now and think I've mastered most if not every aspect of raising/breeding and incubating the ooths. But on the other hand not many people will be...

    Breeding ghost problem

They both sound old enough, I would try honey coating a live fly and feed it to him, they seem to eat more with the coating. Some males are just crazy in the head though...

    save male when breeding?

Feed her a bunch(as much as she'll eat)the days before and have plenty of prey in there when you try and mate them, yes save the male for remating later.

    Where to buy/start?

Not all mantis sp get cared for the same, what species were you thinking about starting with? Some like it hot and wet, some hot and dry, others are easier and room temp is fine with a misting once in a while, etc. I'll leave to other members to clue you in on a good starter species, but just...

    will mantids eat cicadas?

They're very loud, they make unique sound at high decibels, so finding them isn't that hard. But when they're 20 ft up a tree, thats another story. How did he get by the filter? Hey he did it so he shouldn't get any warning points as a prize! ;)

    will mantids eat cicadas?

I would only try it with a larger mantis or it may get pulled all over the enclosure, maybe even go hang gliding for a bit... :D
