    Well shoot….

I understand the loss first hand. I was once into salt water reef specimens. I had some beautiful setups. Very expensive specimens of jelly fish and other exotic specimens. I paid $600 for some coral reef fragments. Everything was perfect. However, the apartment I was living at the time sent in...

    Wing problem after final molt..

Certainly. Use the Attach files option and select the pic you want to share. :) Crumpled wings can happen even if environmental conditions are spot on. Does she have plenty of molting space and adequate hanging areas?

    Field trip bust

I thought it would be a perfect place. Large property with 3 large ponds, a small river with lots of tall grass running along the banks, rotten logs and tons of moss and bamboo. 1 acre was mostly pine. This was all within 4 acres of property. I probably should have waited until more flowers were...

    Field trip bust

I was overly optimistic and took 10 32oz cups and other assorted containers and bags. All I forgot was mosquito spray. 😄

    Mantids For The Florida Garden

As long as I have permission or on public property I don't care if someone is watching me. 😂

    Mantids For The Florida Garden

We supposedly have lots of Gonatista here, but I've never found a single one. We have lots of lichen and oak trees and their camouflage is almost perfect.

    Field trip bust

I spent five hours with friends on a field trip looking for mantids, beetles, plants and moss specimens. A sunburn and 200 mosquitoes bites later, all I found were these lousy snails and their eggs everywhere... and possibly Dengue fever. 😕

    Mantids For The Florida Garden

I recommend Stagmomantis carolina. Chinese mantis are not great for the garden. I wish people would stop releasing Tenodera for pest control. They are a bigger threat to your pollinators than the smaller Stagmomantis species. Tenodera are great for pets... not for the garden.

    FL species ID help needed

I'm going to catch as many as possible so hopefully I'll get at least one female. Then again, with my luck I may catch 20... all males. 😂 I'm hoping to also find some Chinese females... one of my favs.

    FL species ID help needed

Thanks! If it is indeed Thesprotia graminis maybe I'll only have to catch one. 😁 I believe they are parthenogenic. I'll do more research. If I find other specimens, beetles, orange isopods, I'll post my catches.

    FL species ID help needed

Thanks! That's kind of what I was thinking. Something about the eye shape throws me off. I'll be going on a "safari" this Saturday to see if I can find any more. She has a huge wildflower and woodland grass field about a acre. Hopefully I'll find something interesting. If I catch a bunch I'll...

    FL species ID help needed

One of my neighbors in NE Florida sent me a pic of this dead specimen she found on her property. She's seen more in her bushes. I'm certain it's not a Heterochaeta orientalis... any ideas? It's approximately 2-3 inches. The picture quality may not be clear enough to be useful.

Large, hard black/green lump about orifice (Hierodula Membranacea)

Judging by this photo and the fact she's not able to use her hind legs, she's probably going to die and there's nothing you can do to help. So sorry. 🙁

Large, hard black/green lump about orifice (Hierodula Membranacea)

It's definitely not frass. I suspect she may have a prolapse. Unfortunately, at her age she'll most likely not survive. I've seen this problem a couple of times in the last 5 years and the outcome is usually death. I don't believe there is anything that can be done to help. 😕 Please wait for...
