Choeradodis male nymphs for Sale/Trade + Orchid female for sale

Hi everyone! Bad news, I had a group of 5 Choeradodis (1 female, 4 males). Tonight, the female died randomly. 😭 So I'm letting the 4 males go. Ideally I'd like them to go to someone who has females so these males can help out with creating future generations. Otherwise if nobody needs them for...

    Non-Mantis related hobbies

I grow plants, namely, orchid plants. I'd say plants are my main hobby and mantises are only secondary. A couple years back, things were completely the opposite. I guess it's because life is busier now and plants require less time and care than mantises. Not to say I don't love my bug babies 😍!

Gonatista grisea - the hunt is on

Hmm interesting! I can try hitting the trees with a stick, but how do you get 10-15 ft up lol? My tree climbing skills is not up to par 🤣.  I’m going to another park near Apopka, FL today.

Gonatista grisea - the hunt is on

I’m in Florida for vacation and spent a day exploring a state park, and I figured I might as well look for bark mantises. I found a grand total of... 1 empty ooth which seems to have been parasitized. As for actual mantises, I’ve had no luck. I tried checking all the trees along the trail but...

HOW'S THE WEATHER WHERE YOU ARE?

It's going to be 9 deg F tonight and it's so cold that I can barely take it anymore 😭 (I really don't like winter and am counting the days until spring). I think if I lived in SoCal or Florida I'll be a lot happier.

    Connection between fullness and molting?

Yep! She molted yesterday and regrew her leg, even though it's shorter and doesn't have the "petal lobe", it's still a leg! It's amazing how well mantises can regenerate themselves.

    Connection between fullness and molting?

You can even see the outline of the new exoskeleton inside its existing one. For example, my orchid girl lost her back leg in a mismolt and now she's going to molt again - I looked closely at her leg "stub" and I can see the outline of a new leg growing underneath her skin. She hasn't eaten in a...

    Making orchid mantis pink

I noticed that they become pinker closer to their molts, and this is more apparent in subadult females preparing for their final molt. But then again, I've had some males and younger females turn extremely pink at certain stages. Others remained pure white.  I never really figured out why. I...

    Number of orchid molts?

If I remember correctly, females have 2 extra molts than males. In my effort to slow down orchid males, I did notice that occasionally males skipped a molt and reached adulthood 1 molt early. As adults, they were smaller than normal.
