Could Parasphendale affinis function as a beginner species?

i have Parasphendale agriona . the females very active while the male just hangs about alot , the female can also be quite nasty ( has taken a swipe at my fingers and water droplets plenty of times ) but overall there a nice species to have . my 1st mantis was a Polyspilota female . now thats...

    mantid

thats never managed to stop me before . i tend to hold the crix by the back leg and wait for them to stop squirming , then a little cut on the abdomen and put it in the mantids gob ( the hard bit ,because the mantid backs away and ducks his head n things ) but eventually the'll grab hold of it...

    Suitable mantis food

all are fine . it's what they would eat the wild so why would they delibratly eat things they do not like and would kill them ? theres lots of things people say about mantids and whats poisonous for em . bees and wasps are precautionary as they might sting your mantids but still edible, spiders...

    locusts and cooling !

you can put crics in the fridge for a little while to cool them down so they arnt as active ( making them easier to handle and swap containers ) . however can you do this with locusts as i dont want to kill my new food stock a few hours after it arrived ? Neil

apart from the usual lazyness , not eaten and the shakes they do , ive noticed that the top of the abdomen looks crinkled like an old persons skin. have any of you guys noticed this as well . ive noticed this on many occasions and this has never proved me wrong . Neil

Do I Put This lil fella down or keep him alive ?

He took a bit of convincing to get the food near his mouth . but 2 seconds after he took a bite . he grabbed it with his own arms and because of the way his neck bends . he didn't even have to lift em to his face lol . he's gonna be trouble . but i dont want to put him down just yet ! Neil

Do I Put This lil fella down or keep him alive ?

one of my male membranacea decided to fall while moulting and this is the consequence. http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f380/13ollox/PIC00564.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f380/13ollox/PIC00565.jpg question is would you put him down if he was yours ? he drags himself around and he...

How does a mantis know where the head of an insect is?

mine just eat away till they eat through the bit that holds the wings on then the wings just fall to the ground . they dont " Snip " them off . they dont eat them because they have no nutritinal value compared to the rest of the meal ! well thats what ive observed for 4 months ! Neil

    Fit to Burst?

mine are like it , there fine ! Nothing to worry about . just wait a couple of days before feeding her once again . if she is that fat she might be ready to produce an ooth ( will only hatch if she's been mated ) Neil

    Mantid problem, shedding skin?

if it's still alive , i would place it in the freezer for a few hours . this will slow its metabolism and evetually die . it does seem that something has happend to your mantis that i don't think will get better . i think AFK's prediction of the parasitic wasp is more than likely. and even if it...

How does a mantis know where the head of an insect is?

i just observed my mantis catch a cric and eat it ! it just chowed down on its abdomen 1st , then the cric kicked its face and things but she just bit its leg off after about the 5th time and carried on eating the abdomen after that , the head was the very last piece that got eaten ! maybe...

    bad moult

one of mine moulted with a dodgey leg at a backwards angle , but after about 5 days it was normal like the rest . maybe your not giving them enough humidity ? this is why most mismoults happen ! try spraying a bit more often and see if that clears up the situation , as for the abdomen , it...
