    The other fruit flies

I found a pair of these bright yellow flies mating. Apparently they're one of the other families referred to as "fruit flies." They look perfectly snack-sized for my mantids and I was wondering if anyone knows how to breed them.

    Armadillidium vulgare?

I've hand fed them to chinese mantids. If they get at the underside of the pillbug or the head they can generally eat the rest out like watermelon on a rind.

    Mantid Ootheca from Italy

I was GOING to. But my teachers know I'm a bug nut and one of them was watching while I was taking pictures... Customs was interesting. They confiscated the 3 French soft drinks and the balsamic vinegar I had, but somehow missed the Southern France palm plant seeds I had right next to them. :P

    Mantid Ootheca from Italy

I went on vacation in Europe for 10 days and found this ooth in Italy near Florence. My guess is a Mediterranean mantis?

    Arrowhead worm

I find these occasionally. I either leave them or smash them, depending on what food source they're near. (Smash them if there's only worms, leave them if those pesky introduced leopard slugs are afoot)

To beat A dead horse agian

Well, for any of you from Michigan wondering... I did call the USDA today. Talked to one of their reps (A friend of mine, he's done presentations at my school etc) The main thing that the department SHOULD be worried about is illegal importation from other countries. The problem with exotics...

    Bent back leg(s)?

Lack of horizontal space or lack of vertical space?

    HOMG!!! BABY SHIELDS!!!

As far as I can tell, no deaths. Whatsoever. I put one of these little guys on my desk last night and watch it devour a fruit fly I had fed it. Neat-o!
