  1. Introvertebrate

Hello from Los Angeles California! I’m new here!

I generally don't get too choked up over animals with limited lifespans, but your original post led me to believe that you were pretty concerned with that mantis. My joke was an awkward attempt at empathy. Clearly not a skill I'm well versed in.

    Success hand feeding my Ghost

Sounds like the size and bulk of the tweezers intimidates him. Other alternatives: toothpicks, bamboo skewers. As a hobbyist, I've always got thin pieces of wire or carbon fiber rods lying around. Maybe straighten out a paper clip.

    European Mantis Ootheca Care

Outside is okay, but I'd keep it protected from rain and predators.

Hello from Los Angeles California! I’m new here!

Sorry. It looks like it's on it's way out. This is the time of year when the native varieties pass away. Maybe purchase a new mantis if they interest you. Fresh starts make you forget. Should I write Hallmark cards?

    New here!

The frog guys are modifying existing Exo Terras and Zoo Meds all the time. They'll replace mesh tops with glass for instance. No reason why you can't replace it with a finer mesh.

    New here!

Did someone say mesh is a problem? I'd more concerned with the large size. We typically use relatively small, minimalistic enclosures, so the mantis can easily find it's prey. A feeder could evade a mantis indefinitely in one of those nice naturalistic terrariums. Too many hiding places.

    Purple Blepharopsis mendica

I find that even shopped pictures don't do the actual animals justice. You need to see them in the flesh.

    Purple Blepharopsis mendica

Even the 'original' looks a bit shopped.

Experiment on Creobroter nymphs and gut-loaded fruitflies

I like your mantis naming conventions. Gut-load 12.

what to do with left over flies?

Better than bacon bits on a salad?

what to do with left over flies?

Not to change the subject, but it occurred to me that if you breed mantises, you need to maintain all your feeder cultures at all times. Even if your first generation of mantises have outgrown fruit flies, you still need to sustain the fruit fly culture for the next generation of mantises. You...

    the protein chronicles!

What if you put some of the reared pupae in the fridge for a while. Do you think they'd lose weight?

    Phyllocrania paradoxa communal molting

Yeah, the person asked a few benign questions like that, but it still seemed weird to me. I'm sure you and I could figure out how a Russian message board works even if we don't know the language. It ain't rocket science. And a location listed as Panama? Anyway, no harm done.

    Phyllocrania paradoxa communal molting

Seems like spam Rebecca. It's Russian, but the location is Panama?

    Identification and care help

Cool. Many of the invertebrates in the hobby come from your neck of the woods. I hear the climate is a bit like Southern California.

I want to live in a country where that species is hanging around my front gate.

How warm do Spiny flower mantis oothecas need to be?

With a high-end thermostat, heat tape has a lot of potential for growth. You can start with one sheet, and then add more as your needs increase. The tape itself isn't that pricy. I believe the snake folks lay it under the enclosure to provide belly heat. Invert folks seem to prefer side heat.

    Trouble raising humidity

Is that all screen on top? The tarantula guys have a rule of thumb. If you're shooting for 40% humidity, make 40% of your cover airtight. Cover 40% of the screen with plastic sheet, a pane of glass, etc.
