I've been diagnosed with CDO. It's like OCD, but all the letters are in alphabetical order as they should be.

Easy way to get flies out of a funnel trap?

But the pantyhose is porous. My thinking is that the smell only emanates from the relatively small hole at the narrow end of the funnel. If the funnel was made of something porous like screen, the smell would emanate from the entire top of the trap. Inverting the whole think might help as...

Easy way to get flies out of a funnel trap?

I once made a similar trap, and then it occurred to me that maybe I should have formed the funnel out of screen material. You want to maximize the amount of nasty smell that gets out into the world.

Easy way to get flies out of a funnel trap?

Other than freezing, the only other option I can think of would be a separate exit. One that's ordinarily plugged with foam or something. It would have to be up high, to take advantage of their desire to climb.

So the females is still alive and receptive by the time the males have reached mating age? That's the concern, when both genders come from the same ooth.

They don't all look roachy. Just call them something else. Beetles sounds more benign.

can I ask a possibly controversial question??

The rumors about invasiveness are highly overstated. I sense a resistance to leaving the enclosure.

There's no easy way to clean my dubia bin. You more or less have to sift through the frass and pick out the nymphs.

Of course, when they're watching you, they're simply trying to determine whether you're predator or prey. There's no in-between. There is no third alternative.

I've heard the chameleon guys talk about putting a mantis ooth inside their chameleon enclosure. I'm guessing that didn't sit well with some folks either.

can I ask a possibly controversial question??

It has a lot to do with total body mass. Whales, elephants, lions, anything big must be protected. Also anything cute and furry. If it has scales or an exoskeleton, it doesn't matter as much.

can I ask a possibly controversial question??

Sometimes I think invasive roaches would be the easiest feeders. You'd have to guard against escapes, but they wouldn't require any special conditions. No supplemental heat, etc.

You've got a point there. They're so visual too. They track you with their heads. We can relate. Every autumn, people register for the sole purpose of trying to postpone the inevitable. Once they realize there's no hope, they're gone for good.

We're like Greenpeace. We like to play God. Some animals deserve to live. Others don't.

    Different strains of Orchid mantises

That breeder feeds a lot of crickets to all different species, including orchids. I find it encouraging that we're not limited to flies.
