I have read from what Endorlado on facebook wrote that the mainland strain of Orchid mantises are larger than the island strains:
 
Indonesian male on average 5-6mm smaller than Malaysian male:

That breeder feeds a lot of crickets to all different species, including orchids. I find it encouraging that we're not limited to flies.
Yes. I was able to feed crickets and roaches to Pseudocreobotra which don't take crawling foods very well since they sit and wait for prey to come to them usually. Adult female Ghost mantises readily take crickets and roaches also, although nymphs seem to not take crawling foods as well.
