    mantis trying to eat itself?

Honey has anti-bacterial properties yes, but they're not going to help with a mantis that's trying to eat himself.

    mantis trying to eat itself?

That is an oddly shaped abdomen. There's a chance he may be sick.

leaving for a trip, will my mantis be okay without food for 10ish days?

I don’t think you’re helping yourself there. As for this conversation, have you learned anything from it? Anything you actually believe?

leaving for a trip, will my mantis be okay without food for 10ish days?

Yeah that’s not too bad. I’d cut out the potato flakes though. It’s the brewers yeast you really want. That protein is what’s really going to benefit the mantis! I would still recommend switching to CGD or Rebecca’s fly food.

Yeah I figured this would happen.

I use a mix of crested gecko diet, a nectar mix, and water crystals. Not gut-loading your flies leads to poor nutrition for mantises. You're essentially feeding them an empty shell. The nutrients you give the prey gets passed on the to the predator.

Mostly the mantis eating the fly before it could bother eating.

While that could work, I wouldn't want to feed my mantis food that hadn't been gut-loaded. That's about as nutritious as feeding him nothing. Though I suppose it's something compared to literal nothing. .-.

We could learn from the RoachForum

That would actually be awesome. Since I'm doing micro-cultural research for this forum, people branching out and making content is a big win for me lol.

We could learn from the RoachForum

So, many keepers on here probably aren't aware of the forum that exists for roach keeping. I'm pointing this out because how we keep our feeder insects isn't really discussed as much as it needs to be. Roaches are also one of the few feeder insects that have a variety of species that are easier...

please help! mantis shaking and leg fell off

Eh humidity isn't that big of a concern for mantises usually (as long as they're roughly in the range the species needs to be). Internal hydration is far more important and is a key factor for molting. Mantises basically use the water inside them to pump themselves up like a glorified balloon...

please help! mantis shaking and leg fell off

It could have been that hemolymph flow was cut off in the leg during molting. A leg falling off isn't really anything to be concerned about honestly. Just keep him hydrated.

let's start a thread of mundane occurrences!

My newest addiction as of now is watching farrier work. It's so interesting to see them trim down the horse's hooves and know exactly how the shape needs to be.

    Micro-cultural research for this forum!

Alright, I'm currently up to date on this thread with my observations of our website. @hibiscusmile Sorry for including you if it bothers you, but you did help me make an important realization in how I was going about with my observations. This is not going in a research paper or anything and is...

Assignment 4: Informants and Action Plan Potential Informants So far, I have several informants in mind: (a) agentA who is also known as Alex, (b) hibiscusmile or Rebecca, (c) Synapze, (d) PanterraPets, (e) and Mystymantis. There will likely be others, but they are not people I know well. Alex...

Journal 4: So far, I have yet to properly sit down in the moment and organize my thoughts for my journal. This will be done in the future.
