let's start a thread of mundane occurrences!

This reminds me, I need to purchase crimping pliers eventually. I would like to expand my animal room in the next few years and that will require heat tape. I also need to learn how to use the pliers. That or burn my house down.

    Doodles/Sketches/Art Thread

Life is full of darkness, light, and even shades of grey. Art is a medium to express it all. My art doesn’t just have “darkness” as well. There’s plenty of lighthearted pieces in this thread too. Tell me which drawings bother you and I will explain them. Consider that they may not be as dark...

    Ooth incubation?

Yeahhh that does not sound like a good idea. It also depends on what kinds of ooths you're incubating too.

There's a reply button at the bottom right of messages on threads! You can use that to quote something like I just did here.

Desert mantises still in the US hobby?

You need to be more specific about the species of mantis. Are you referring to Eremiaphila?

I bought some terrarium plants from Alex for a good price and was very impressed. They threw in a few freebies plants, some isopods, mantises, clover seeds, and mycelium! My eyes about bugged out of my head. Everything arrived in good condition even though the package was delayed by a day. 10/10...

In your previous post, were you talking about Odontomantis? The little ant mimic mantis that is. I believe Alex is saying they have a breeding group of them.

    pack hunters??

Knowing how possessive mantises are of their food, I'm surprised someone didn't get struck at. Trying to pull food from any of my mantises was a nightmare (this was when I was paranoid about them overeating, I did it in my first month but don't anymore).

Rip Bigsby the female Ghost mantis

It's pretty amazing that she lived that long. I just lost two of my ghosties a few weeks ago to disease. Rip Cardamom and Cinnamon. They managed to be sweet and spicy at the same time. They were two of the ghosties you sent me and the two I kept. Only one's left out of the four (another was...

    pack hunters??

That is pretty dude. Hopefully they didn't try to eat each other when they finished off the fly.

    Mantisplace

I ordered a fruit fly starter and a budwing nymph and was surprised by what I was sent! It would have been hard for Rebecca to sex a nymph at the current age (I wanted a female), so I just crossed my fingers with whichever nymph I was sent. She was kind enough to send a free adult female and a...

Ok we need to fix this...

That does seem rather odd. I do wonder how sensitive these mantises are to temperature fluctuations. Heck just how sensitive they are in general.

I made a key to the Creobroter!

Wow, that's amazing dude. Good for you!!

    Leaving the hobby

They still are in the hobby to a degree, but are only rearing species they enjoy. I’d say it’s more so they have stepped back from the hobby socially because of toxicity.
