What to feed L5+ Chinese Mantids?

I'm looking for feeders that I can potentially breed for my soon to be L5 tenodera sinensis mantids. I read hydei fruitflies will be too small for them at that point. I'd like to avoid using crickets as I've heard a lot of horror stories of them killing mantids. I've been breeding mealworms for...

    My mantis turned pink... Why??

I've read somewhere on here that crickets fed on carrots can cause mantis deaths, unsure about colour changes though. Does she seem fine otherwise?

    Black Solider Fly Adventures

Thanks for making a post about this! My mantids are going to be nearing L4 soon so I began looking for some larger feeders for them. I just tried my hand at waxworms but it's not really working out for me it seems. BSF seem like a great alternative. Looking forward to more updates!

    Screen Lid Opinion

I'm currently housing some of my Chinese mantid nymphs in these plastic containers. I saw the masterpost of the DIY habitat guide (excellent btw!), and the type of material I'm using is plastic mesh, but is it too big/thick? I'm worried my mantids may have problems gripping it and fall during...

    Teamonger's Mantis Habitats

These look so cute! Mine look so clinical now, I will definitely add some life to their containers whenever they are bigger. Very cool touch with the mushroom! :)

    Ootheca layout opinion?

Happy to say that one of my ooths hatched on the 10th! One little guy came out, and then an hour later the rest followed. I counted about 30, such a small hatch thankfully! They're all eating well and I separated a few of my favourites in to plastic cups, hoping they all survive! Thank you all...

    I'm a Mantis Mommy! FINALLY!

Glad yours hatched as well! I did the same and separated a few of my favourites in some plastic cups. If you have any pictures of your desk buddy jars I'd love to see! Congrats! :D

    Ootheca layout opinion?

The wait really is awful! I wish these buggers would hurry up lol. Sorry yours did not work out the first time, I have a feeling that if mine aren't hatched by February I will have to start again as well. I wish the best of luck to you! :D

    Ootheca layout opinion?

Sorry for the VERY late reply! I've been busy and didn't get a chance to respond right away, but rest assure I do have a few fruit fly cultures producing. Thanks for all of your guys' help! It's been about 6 weeks and they haven't hatched yet, but I read that it may take up to 8 weeks so...

    Ootheca layout opinion?

Hello again everybody! My Chinese mantis oothecae just arrived in the mail, and I'd like to know if you think the set up for them looks good. This is my first time caring for egg cases and there are two separate ones. Is the place they hatch from pointing in the right direction? If something is...

Feeding T. sinensis (chinese mantis) hydei after hatching?

Thank you both very much! I'll be getting my ootheca in a couple weeks and this forum has definitely made me more prepared!  :)   One last question - how often should I mist? I'll be using paper towel as substrate at the beginning, should I mist until it's damp and there are water droplets on...

Feeding T. sinensis (chinese mantis) hydei after hatching?

Hello everybody! I'm very new to this hobby and I'm trying to get all the correct information I can on this species. I'm not sure whether to feed them melanogaster or hydei flies after they first hatch from the ootheca. I've seen some people say that chinese mantids will take hydei right from...
