What species should I get next?

I agree with @MantisRCool, all type of shield mantises are great :)  they can get a bit expensive, though, so if you need a less expensive option, Indian Flowers are great and so are spiny flowers (but they require a bit more care). Also, giant budwings (p. agrionina) are super great. Best of luck!

I don't know what to think

So, I overzealously sprayed one of my ghost nymphs. She got caught in a drop and was trapped on the floor for an unknown amount of time, partially submerged. I freed her and she perked up and started crawling and cleaned up her legs and seems to be acting relatively normal. Should I be worried...

Oh, didn't realize this was so old, sorry

    Phyllocrania paradoxa oothbound

This happened to mine, but she ended up laying when I moved her to a house plant and misted her and fed her less protein and more fat-filled foods, like waxworms

    Sudden fatness?

    Looks good!

    My first ooth!!

I posted this somewhere else, but I'm very excited about this. It's my (and her ;) ) first ooth! Unfortunately it's infertile. Amazing what these creatures do.

    My crazy ghosts!

So! Very exciting update! Maple has laid her first (infertile) ootheca. She waited quite a while, the silly girl, so it was huge for her body size! I don't have any boys, unfortunately. But I'm very happy she wasn't egg-bound and that she has such a beautiful ootheca laid! :D    on the plant...

    Odd behavior?

I was mostly kidding :D , but if you want to try it, you can feed your mantis in a dark room! Maybe that'll get her to eat? That'd be an interesting experiment!

    Sudden fatness?

@Mantidkid if you're really worried, go ahead and move her! Make sure she isn't molting, though

    Hi from Missouri!

Hello and welcome! Good to hear you have insect experience! Good mantis choices

    Sudden fatness?

@Mantidkid I've had smaller than average mantises too, and they seem to do just as well as their larger siblings. I think a good rule of thumb is if the behavior is normal, the mantis is healthy!

    Abdominal Injury

It sounds like maybe the cuticle got punctured, but not the epidermis, which lacks the rigidity to keep the hemolymph from bulging out of the abdomen. The cuticle also plays a vital role in keeping bacteria out from the insides... so there was nothing that you could have done that you already...

    Odd behavior?

Mantises are mainly diurnal creatures, but have been known to engage in certain behaviors at night. I've never experienced this with my ghosts! Maybe yours just needs some mood lighting ;)

    Sudden fatness?

Definitely four molts left if she's an r basilis female; females have nine molts, males have eight! So subadult for her is L8. Also, don't worry about her stomach! It's normal! :)

Any guesses on instar for my D.desiccata?

@cat_h @Mystymantis I agree in the assumption that the male is subadult, or L7. His wing buds look quite swollen and prominent, as noted! The males have 8 molts and the females have 9, so the female could be on the same molt but not in the same stage of her life. So for the male almost...

    Self Cannibalism, Refusing to eat

@GayJerk I'm glad she ate!! :)  i think providing her with some more sticks that she can wrap her limbs around rather than just rely on her sticky pads would help her! Also, I think that your idea of having something soft to walk on would work for her comfort as well. Hopefully she gets them...
