    Adulthood

I would agree. In my experience, male mantids can be just as savage as females, but their instinct is to search for females and mate. I think I’m some species, the drive is stronger than others. If you have a female in your home, as soon as she starts releasing pheromones, I would say forget...

What should I feed my mantids?

I remember when I raised majusculas! Such a great mantis. :) They have larger raptorial legs compared to some mantids and are quite voracious with their appetite! i would try again with your family with the flies. Once they pupate and you put them in the fridge, you won’t even notice them...

    Mantis leg badly bent

Idk how small your mantis is, but sometimes it can take a couple molts to heal. So don’t be shocked if it’s not completely healed on the next molt. Just keep feeding and he should be fine! Good luck! -mino

    Orchid male hitchhiker

I saw on Instagram that orchid male mantids will hangout on the females back for up to two weeks and will mate with her every couple days or so. Can anyone confirm this?

    First shed!!

Congratulations!! It’s always exciting when your mantis levels up! Lol I enjoy seeing them molt to adulthood, but these days I don’t need to see the molt. I get way too anxious! Haha! I always talk to them before they molt. (Knowing the signs will come in due time) ”Hey! You look like you’re...

    Hey there!

Welcome Logan! Another ‘92 baby! :) This is a great place for information! It’s easy to get lost in all of it, but just like hibiscus mentioned, picture their wild and go from there! You’re starting with two mantids that are pretty forgiving, so good luck! I must ask since you mentioned it...

Can mantid goes into pre-molt position but looks skinny and all

Yes, very normal! Mantids can and will go a week plus without eating before a molt and you just have to trust that all is ok. Of course if you give them good conditions: warmth, good amount of humidity, and put them in a place that doesn’t get high traffic, they will probably molt sooner than...

    the orchid mantis color experiment

I just did a quick google search and I saw some pretty yellow orchid mantids! Very cool! (I hope it was the mantis and not editing lol) I guess they can express quite the range of color. But one thing that I think should remain constant is high humidity. I feel like orchids, really most mantids...

    Collection @synapze on Instagram

I’ve honestly wanted to try my hand at raising Carolina mantids because they can express a wide variety of colors and patterns. They would be fascinating to work with and are native to my area ish! Lol

    the orchid mantis color experiment

I would be curious with high humidity and temperature variety and then humidity with light and use a fish light, leds preferably because the ones these days you can customize a ramp up and now and such and don’t have to do it manually. one thing I know is humidity is important. I can tell you...

    the orchid mantis color experiment

I am excited to see the outcome of this experiment! I agree with hysteresis, keep an eye on the sun! I’m excited for you! I think humidity plays an important role. But I am curious to see if flower color plays more of a role than we think. Who knows Chris might start to express some blues or...
