Hello all,

I recently gotten a Truncata which is suppose to turn adult after this molt. However her wing bud is not even swollen, abdomen is not very big and she refuses to eat for the past 4 days. Is this normal? Attached is a picture of her.

Regards

She's definitely molting now, I would guess that she's actually presub and is molting to subadult, if her wingbuds aren't swollen.

Yes, very normal! Mantids can and will go a week plus without eating before a molt and you just have to trust that all is ok. Of course if you give them good conditions: warmth, good amount of humidity, and put them in a place that doesn’t get high traffic, they will probably molt sooner than later.

In the picture provided, the wing buds actually do look swollen to me and she very well may be going in to her adult stage. Keep us updated and good luck.

Yeah is normal that a mantis stops eating a few days before preparing to molt. My Ghost just did that (her abdomen is after molt very thin. )

Hope she will have a good molt

Much thanks for all the replies! She has yet to molt. Keeping my fingers cross! Will update once she molt successfully :)

Hi all,

She has just molted few hrs ago and have a mismolt. Her right Femur onwards got stuck. When i saw this I tried to mist her a little to try to help her out of her molt but she panicked and came out too early. She also fell twice and I have to use a tweezer to try helping her out of the skin without vain. Currently She is drying out her wings and I hope she could live her full lifespend as I have read that most mantis died within 48hrs after falling during a molt😭  Finger cross =(

Attached is the photo of her.

Yeah, I agree. Unless she has internal injuries, which is unlikely, she looks like she will be fine. Her wings might be a little messed up, but that's not too bad.
