    Rabbit food?

I was just curious if anyone has experience with feeding rabbit food to your feeder insects?  I started feeding rabbit food and bee pollen to my dubias and it seems like all is well, but I was just curious if anyone has experience with it.  Any thoughts would be helpful.  Thank you.

    Wandering Mantids

Do you ever just put your Mantis on a house plant and let them live "wild" and roam free in the house.  I have three Mantids and a LOT of house plants and I often let my mantids roam "wild".  8/10 they will just hang out on the plant and if I find one of them missing, I can almost always find...

    Molting 2

I don't know how big your majuscula is, but don't forget the other signs of molting.  Swollen wing buds, won't eat and will do a "leave me alone" strike at prey, swaying back and forth in one position.  There are also, different types of pumping of the abdomen I've realized.  Your mantis will...

    What to D(ooth). (I won't quick my day job)lol

Is there anything special to do with infertile ooths?  I feel wrong just throwing it out, so I might just put it outside somewhere, but I was curious if you all do anything special for infertile ooths.  What do you do? Thanks.

    Spiders in enclosure? Help

I'm sure they're out there, but I haven't really heard of a spider not being venomous so I would be very careful. Although small, if a spider can make a web, it's a complete game changer no matter what size. I would be VERY careful. When I feed spiders, if they aren't eaten within minutes, I...

    Gut load recipes for mantids?

I don't know if there is a strain on this already, but I want to make sure that my mantids are getting all the nutrients they need so I want to properly feed the feeder insects.  I've looked up recipes online and watched youtube videos and they are all for reptiles and tarantulas and such.  I...

    Could she be pregnant?

Female Mantids can eat WAY more than two crickets a day. They have huge appetites. If you live in an area that has wild bugs, I would try and catch some moths, grasshoppers or other insects so her diet isn't just crickets.  The term we use is gravid or full of eggs. Your female looks like she...

    Flying Mantis?

She is a beautiful mantis! Female mantids usually can't fly. Their abdomen is too big to allow them to stay in the air for any amount of time. The best you'll see her do is a gracefully flutter to the ground if she ever jumps off your hand, but no real flight action happening, so you don't have...

The 5 second rule doesn't count

I've only seen it twice and the second being yesterday.  My mantis was eating a fly, ate the head and then dropped it.  I put in another fly and she ate the entirety of it.  Her antennae started to move and I guess she realized the half eaten fly and started to eat/picked it up again.  Just a...

Color morphs in Leaf mimicking species?

With many species of mantis, there are a great number of ways that their colors, patterns, even shading can come out.  That's one of the joys of keeping them for me, but I was wondering in your experience, are their color/ pattern morphs in leaf mimicking species.  Mostly talking leaf and not...

    First breeding attempt.

Oh yes,  I would start now so she is less inclined to eat the male and feed her good! :)  I fed my female Chinese mantis 3 of those big wood borrowing bees and she could've eaten way more if there were more.  Also what Ausar said about not every attack is an "I'm gonna eat you attack."  All...

    First breeding attempt.

I literally bred two different female mantids yesterday.  Here are my tips. 1) Make sure the female is at least 3 weeks old.  If not, I would wait longer.  I know it can be exciting, but the longer you wait, the better.  2) Make sure she is fed and I'm not talking just one big roach or...
