    Female Mantis won't "Open Up"

This is my second time breeding this species and I find them a bit difficult to breed compared to other species I've tried. I have even had a male chew on the female's prothorax which caused bleeding. I separated them immediately. Has anyone else have had odd problems with breeding them?

    Female Mantis won't "Open Up"

I put a couple T. sinensis pairs together in an attempt to mate them. The females have been adult and unmated for a month and the males have been adult for around 2 weeks. One of the females has already laid an infertile ooth as well. Having them both fattened up, I placed the males with them...

    Female injured fromMating Attempt

I put my male and female Tenodera sinensis together and when he jumped on her, he landed clumsy and grabbed her abdomen and the spines on his forelegs caused her to bleed. In the picture, you can see the blue-green hemolymph oozing from her. Will she be okay or will she be unable to mate or die...

    Collection starter

Good starters include Sphodromantis, Hierodula, Rhombodera, Parasphendale and species that are found in the wild in parts of the eastern US such as Stagmomantis carolina, Tenodera sinensis and Mantis religiosa.

    What Species of Hierodula?

Some people who have seen pictures of my Hierodula parviceps are suggesting that it may not actually be parviceps. Someone told me that it may be multispina. The species was labelled as parviceps and the initially stock that was collected was from the Philippines. Does anyone know whether or not...

    My new Hierodula parviceps

It was a nice warm sunny day yesterday so I had taken her outside for some better photos. I believe these photos do her a lot more justice. :) I find that her pale blue colour looks really good against the pink of the chrysanthemum flowers in the background.

    My new Hierodula parviceps

I have no idea but I guess I'll continue to call it parviceps like I was told it was until someone very knowledgeable steps in and correctly identifies it if in fact it isn't parviceps.

    Looking for Popa spurca

I am looking for the African Twig Mantis (Popa spurca). Any life stage would be good and I prefer to purchase or trade with someone who's local or at least within Ontario because I am not yet educated in shipping, especially shipping across borders.

    Mold on ooth?

There's no mold. It looks good to me!

    My new Hierodula parviceps

@TheBeesKnees I haven't heard of the rumour of the mis-IDing of H. parviceps but you're probably right that this isn't H. patellifera because like you said, patellifera is significantly smaller. @Extrememantid Haha yes! I'll try to get some to you for sure.

    Tanzanian Mystery Mantis

Most M. religiosa i've had sported the eyespots on the inner coxae of the forelegs before L5. There might be a possibility it could be a different species belonging to that genus.

    My new Hierodula parviceps

This is a mated female H. parviceps I just got today along with a handful of first instar nymphs. I am really digging her pale blue colour.

    Ghost mantis ooth help

I incubated my ghost ooths in a 32oz deli cup too and I had paper towel as the substrate beneath them and metal mesh on the lid. The mesh was small enough that hatchlings wouldn't be able to escape and it allowed enough ventilation in it so the air didn't get stagnant. I bought the mesh from a...

    Looking for Flower mantids

I am looking for Spiny Flower Mantis, either Pseudocreobotra wahlbergii or P. occelata. Creobroter species would be okay too. I am in the Niagara Region of Ontario. Message me if you have any for sale or for trade.

A very easy way to feed ghosts.

Right now my ghosts are early instar and I have them all together in a well set-up shoebox enclosure. To feed them, I simply sprinkle fruitflies from the fruitfly culture deli up into an empty deli cup and then I quickly close the fruitily culture. I then shake the deli cup full of fruitflies so...

    Is this a Carolina mantis?

Tenodera sinensis is not yet found in the wild in Canada. The odd one may pop up because their oothecae are sold as biological control for gardens and so the ones that make it to adulthood will linger until the end of the year.

    Litaneutria minor

They are native to southern British Columbia. I believe they can only be found in the Okanagan Valley which is a desert-like habitat. So as funny as it sounds, the only mantis native to Canada is a desert species. I have not yet found them in captivity but if I do, I really want to get my hands...
