My ghost mantis ooth has just laid her first ooth but I do not know if it is fertile I put her in a big cage with the male and her was on her in seconds and he was on her for a few hours but he didn't connect and when I went to sleep and woke up he was off her he has now passed away so I can't mate them again so I hope this one is fertile. Now if it is should I put the ooth in a 32oz deli cup what lid should I use cloth or screen and should I put paper towel on the bottom and how often should I mist twice a week?

time will tell,

I used deli cup with mesh as the nymphs are quite small.

would put down a paper towel and I like to add some raffia grass or twigs for them to climb on once they hatch.

mist lightly once a week and you should be fine unless you are in a dry climate.

you will need to get fruit flies once they hatch, they will start eating a day or two after hatching.

feed the female well and she will lay another few fertile ooths if this one turns out fertile. getter diet = bigger ooths and more nymphs

I incubated my ghost ooths in a 32oz deli cup too and I had paper towel as the substrate beneath them and metal mesh on the lid. The mesh was small enough that hatchlings wouldn't be able to escape and it allowed enough ventilation in it so the air didn't get stagnant.

I bought the mesh from a hardware store by the foot and I cut out a small square that would fit over the lid of the deli cup. I then cut a square out of the deli cup and hot glued the mesh onto the lid.

more like paper type. like the lids used on fruit fly cultures for 32 oz deli cups.

sold on mantisplace and mantispets. good to get a dozen or so of the deli cups and lids as you will need to spread them nymps out a bit to increase survival rates if you plan to offer a few for trade or sale and still maintain breeding stock.

mantispets sells a dozen with lids for under 6 bucks. (plus shipping )

How long between this mating attempt and the ooth being laid? When I read this it sounds like the next day or something - which would make the answer simple.

Glue the ooth to a cloth lid, put some excelsior in the cup, and try to hold the temp and humidity at 80f and 60% respectively. 80/60 is a hair muggy feeling, and of course warm... Your local spring/summer humidity is right around 60% outside, so just think of what it's like during an 80's day... you want that for the cup for the next 4-6 weeks.

Okay it is on the stick shoudl I also glue the stick to the lid and how often should I spray it to keep it like that I'll put it next o a heat may to keep it warm

I like to glue the stick to the lid, it gets the ooth pointing straight down. However if you can fit the stick in at an angle that can work too. I would guess a spraying twice a week if it's in your house under a heat lamp - but I would recommend you buy a $4 humidity meter so you can be sure. It's really hard to say how much spraying you may need because there are so many factors.
