Anybody buy crickets from Ghann's Cricket Farm ? They have good prices, but I'm wondering about quality and prompt and live delivery and such. They also have good prices on meal worms, but I don't know if the mantis' will eat meal worms, and if so what size are best for sub adult mantis' ...

Can Crickets chew through plastic screen, really ?

I'll probably stop using it anyway. It's a pain to get them out of. I'll just keep them in the home depot bucket. The thing I liked about the little 'cricket house' is I can put it in the garden without taking up too much space, and it's warmer in there than anywhere else in the house. Gets...

    Payson tarantula

I noticed that there are redish spots on the side of the container, like maybe puke. I fed it 4 flies one day, and noticed the spots the next day. I wasn't sure if it ate the first two flies, so i put in two more and saw it actually flip and grab a fly and push it into it's 'mouth' and hold it...

    Leaving for Vacation OK?

I'd think some humidity sponge will help, and some food that won't knock the molters off their perch, like maybe non climbing roaches. I was thinking crickets also, if you don't have anything for them to climb up to the mantis', that is if they last long in there B) I actually think that...

    Chinese ooths

I just keep them in a gallon glass jar, like a pickle or sun tea jar. I wrote ealier that my 5 mantis' got along great, well not a week after that I had to seperate two of them and put them in seperate jars cause one was biting the other arm, in a clench. A couple days later I notices one...

Can Crickets chew through plastic screen, really ?

I have a 'cricket house' that is made of plastic screen, and has the handle and pivoting door, looks like fisher Price item. I read that crickets can chew through the plastic screen, is this so ? The sure seem to like hanging out on the screen, and are hardly ever on the floor, or in the...

    17th Birthday Fund Raiser

Happy Birthday You'll be thinking, "wow, I'm not grandpa age yet, am I" before long. It's just a couple dreams away... you'll see ;) B) I can't believe its been 30 years ago for me, already. The fact I never had kids makes me feel even more like a kid, still, but with wisdom enough to...

    Ootheca Thief

You could do the old string hang thing so the birds freak thinking that the strings are spider webs to catch them, or maybe they think they'll get tangled. Don't know but the threads may help, or a net, or the pie tins, or the old fake owl thing. They say the thing with fake owls is you need...

    Can Chinese mantis' overeat?

I've got larva? from when I visited Chuck, and I'm trying to hatch them out before they die, so I have a bunch of flies and have been feeding my mantis' heavily. I've never seen them as fat as they are, and wonder if maybe I'm overfeeding them, or if they'll just quit eating when it gets to the...

    Very very sad...

Yes, I DE'd my windows and door threshold, before I got the mantis'. I haven't tried to remove it, as it disipates on it's own. I just don't let the mantis' run loose in those area's. I also planted catnip, which is supposed to repel some pests, near the door, out on the landing.

    She ate poo!

Maybe the bacteria is down in her guts, and she senses that the bacteria in the 'poo' will suplement her gut and is trying to balance it that way, not my cup of...tea. You could take a video for freaks on youtube...

    Mis-molt

I have a budwing that mismolted and has the right arm just drag, and looks like a nuisanse, and it's humped over real bad, but it's hung in there for quite some time, and has, after a week, stared eating the hydei I've put in there, finally. It's gained length and looks much healthier, though...

    DEAD FRUIT FLIES!!!!

One of the main reasons I started culturing them is cause I froze a couple cultures, so I make extra cultures, and keep them in different places. I was taught a long time back, well, twenty or twenty five years back anyway, to never keep all my eggs in one basket, or you stand to lose them all...

    Spider Pharm on Discovery Channel

Incidently, the video has the guy, mike, commenting on the smell, and when I went to the Tucson insectory it had a different aroma. The insectory owner had a big pile of what he said was insect body parts mixed with wood chips/saw dust, and that it makes excellent compost pile...

    Spider Pharm on Discovery Channel

Chucks fly chow was in a bucket that looked like it was filled with mastic, for tile, but it was his fly food. A big drill with a corkscrew looking bit for mixing the stuff. He said to use High Protein dog food, and rabbit food, and wood chips, and the special ingredient that is necessary for...

    17th Birthday Fund Raiser

I don't remember what I did on my 17th birthday, but I remember how I made money. If those whole images are yours with spray paint I'd say ya got some talent. If you can do these quickly you could make them on the spot, espcially characatures that sell at fairs and festivals, and make some...

Keeping tons o' baby Crickets - HELP

Local pet store here orders them for $20 for 500, and says they come with 10%-20% over. I had one of those fuzzy worms in my last batch, and threw it into my most ferocious mantis' enclosure, and haven't seen it since. He eats anything, so I keep my fingers clear... :) The Pets Inc, the...

    Bees please

I just think about how many things wouldn't be polllenated if I take a bee, so I abstain. I imagine if I ran into a beligerent bee though, well that's a different story. If you make it to Yuma, Algodonez is just a quick trip away, and San Luis not much further. You could stumble back to the...

Hydei culturing difficult compared to Melanogaster

I started some Hydei jan 25, and there is very little activity in them, but when I bought the original culture it seemed like the one's in it died, and I saw maggots so I left it. About 2 weeks later it was teeming with flies, so it does take more time than the mels do. My 0125 cultures are...
