Hello Please Tell me Where I can buy this awesome mantis!

Japan is not a southeast asian country. "The genus Metallyticus reviewed" by Frank Wieland has a map that shows findings of Metallyticus, though that includes the entire genus and not just M. splendidus.

Hello Please Tell me Where I can buy this awesome mantis!

They are spread throughout Southeast Asia. The European breeding stock originated from the Cameron Highlands of Malaysia.

    Theopompa servillei

Thanks! They are indonesian bark mantids, Theopompa servillei. I use a Canon Powershot SX730 HS. First hatch is at L3 now. Here in comparison to a female. L1 and L3

    Theopompa servillei

The first ooth hatched today! 😃 I incubated it in the mother's tank just to be safe for the first time, parameter-wise. Yielded me about 20 nymphs, which took a bit of time to scoop out of there. They like sticking to one surface, so once a nymph is on your hand they tend to run a few loops...

    Theopompa servillei

Looking good so far! Both females have mated without much trouble. The male's initial jumps caused both females to freak out at first and run a few panic laps with the male on their back, but luckily they did not start attacking them and calmed down. The actual copulation started pretty quickly.

    Theopompa servillei

Well, first I'll have to succeed in breeding them. 😃 Time will tell. I don't think I could ship these overseas though. Maybe ooths at best, if there aren't legal troubles. On the bigger side for bark mantis standards, but not that big overall. My female is a little bit under 5cm(~2 in) and my...

    Theopompa servillei

Things are going well. Two males and one female made it to adulthood so far. I'm loving their patterns.

    Desert mantis (Eremiaphila sp.) food

When I intitially raised my first batch of them I exclusively fed firebrats, but once they reached adulthood I started feeding various other things. I pumped females full of bottleflies, locusts, waxworms, or mealworms and never noticed anything unusual. No signs vomiting, weird poop or problems...

    Theopompa servillei

Posting a few pics of these bark dwelling beauties, now that the first male reached adulthood. Genders are easy to tell apart by the male's red coloration on the coxae.

    Idolomantis/Metallyticus/Eremiaphila/etc.

The first ooth fully hatched over three days, giving me 14 live nymphs, a decent number for this species. They eat springtails until L3. From then on firebrats are their main source of food. The species doesn't accept flies too well, flat food like firebrats and roaches work great and...

    Idolomantis/Metallyticus/Eremiaphila/etc.

Freshly hatched M. splendidus after an incubation time of 100 days.

How many molts for R. megaera?

Both genders should usually require 10 molts until adulthood. From my offspring the males reached adulthood at about the same times as females.

    Idolomantis/Metallyticus/Eremiaphila/etc.

All the M. splendidus males are dead by now, the tank has gotten very calm again.  Matings occurred, so hopefully something hatches out of the ooths. Apparently the incubation time can be over three months, it'll be a while until I potentially see success. The next generation of...

Please could you identify this mantis?

Adult female Parasphendale. Most common in the hobby are P. affinis and P. agrionina, but there are also sometimes species sold that haven't been identified yet.

    Idolomantis/Metallyticus/Eremiaphila/etc.

Yeah, they can eat ridiculous amounts of food until they are fully sated.

    Idolomantis/Metallyticus/Eremiaphila/etc.

All but two M. splendidus are adult now. I managed to get a decent comparison between a fully colored female and one that molted a day ago. I also attempted to film a female a bit. They are less hyperactive than the males, but my camera still has a hard time capturing them. The...

Female expelling white substance after mating

Searching for information on general insect reproduction should yield results, mantids aren't really different. Basically, the male transfers the Spermatophore, from which the sperm cells then travel into the Spermathecae, chambers where they are stored and kept alive. Inside the Ovaries are...

Female expelling white substance after mating

Females always eject spermatophores after a while and sometimes eat them, they are just empty husks after the sperm has been absorbed. If she feels bothered by the one still stuck to her abdomen she will get rid of it by herself, they are flexible enough to reach around.
