    Next stage food?

I think she meant whether roaches are necessary to be used as feeders. They are an easy way to satiate larger mantids, as opposed to having to feed dozens of bottleflies. Locusts are a good alternative, if you tolerate them better than roaches.

Help with the identification of strange Mantid from Amazon Brazil

    Pretty sure that's a thread-legged bug(Emesinae), a subfamily of assassin bugs.

    Idolomantis/Metallyticus/Eremiaphila/etc.

Thanks! Parameters and feeding are the same, I seperated the genders at L5, when the molting time between the fastest and slowest were already about 2 weeks apart, seems like it just depends on the individuals. The female is now also starting to gain color, albeit slower than the male did. Left...

    Idolomantis/Metallyticus/Eremiaphila/etc.

I know of another keeper who lost an Idolomantis to cannibalism because of a molt. It's quite odd. I got them all at L2/L3 on June 26th. I initially ordered 9. One died because of a mismolt during shipping. Another one dropped dead a day after arriving for seemingly no reason, it even still ate...

    Idolomantis/Metallyticus/Eremiaphila/etc.

Thanks! The front is acrylic glass with a lock. They work pretty well in groups, though I did lose a L7 female to cannibalism. I think it was more of an accident or unlucky timing, rather than one of them intentionally going for another. The victim was freshly molted, and the aggressor did molt...

    R. Megaera size?

From my two females one was 9,5cm(3,74 in) and the second one 11,5cm(4,52 in), from head to wings. Plistospilota guineensis should be the biggest one available in captivity in terms of mass and size, while Heterochaeta orientalis seems to lead in pure length.

    Rhombodera Questions

    R. basalis has the biggest shield. R. megaera doesn't really have a wider shield, the species resembles H. membranacea a lot. I haven't kept R. extensicollis, but from pictures it seems the shield is a bit widened, albeit smaller than R. basalis. Husbandry wise they are the same. They are...

    Idolomantis/Metallyticus/Eremiaphila/etc.

Thanks! Yeah, it shows both and records the highest and lowest points measured too. Really useful for the initial setup. Second one to molt was a female! The rest is gonna take a while longer, as they show no signs of swelling wingbuds yet. The male has reached full color now. The phone cam...

    Mantis behavior question

It doesn't look like the way they are swaying to blend in with the environment, it rather resembles motions they make before and after molts. Seems like it's bothered by the deformed wings. My Idolomantis male with misshapen wings behaves similarly after they have fallen into a worse position...

    Thoughts on Blephorapis mendica?

No, B. mendica have been in the hobby for a long time. That price is outrageous as well. www.panterrapets.com has them available at good prices.

The frame was made out of aluminium profiles and three-way connectors. Something similar to this.

    Idolomantis/Metallyticus/Eremiaphila/etc.

Sure. I keep the females in a 70x50x50cm tank and the males in a 60x40x50cm. I custom built them with fiberglass mesh on top, left and right, as well as pressed cork in the background. The top has thin sticks, pencil-thick at most, glued to it. I removed the bamboo sticks later because they...

    Idolomantis/Metallyticus/Eremiaphila/etc.

The first male completed the final molt four days ago, and now the green coloration is slowly starting to appear. The wings are slightly misshapen and cannot be fully folded, but it is not affecting the mantis negatively. The rest of the group should follow soon.

Uk and Ireland mantid breeders online

www.mantidsandmore.com is a very trustworthy German shop with live arrival guarantee. Ordered multiple times there, and I can definitely recommend it.

    First time breeding!

Sticks won't motivate her to lay faster. They often just attach ooths to the mesh on top of the tank. Nothing to do now but feeding her well and wait.

    First time breeding!

That's normal. Bigger species can copulate for 12 hours or more sometimes. The first ooth might take 1-2 weeks. 2 weeks after the final molt they usually just got ready to mate.

    Mantids disapearing

Deroplatys shouldn't be kept in groups, they become quite aggressive as they grow bigger. However, there are a lot more mantids that can be kept communally. A few genera from the top of my head are Heterochaeta, Sibylla, Metallyticus, Haania, Phyllothelys, Hestiasula, Orthodera, etc. There are...
