Dear all,

It would be great if you could help with the identification of a Mantid from the Amazon forest in Brazil. I found it 50km from Porto Velho inside the forest. It looks very slim, but I do believe it was a mantid.

Thanks for your help!

Pretty sure that's a thread-legged bug(Emesinae), a subfamily of assassin bugs.

It kinda looks like some kind of stick bug. The head does not look right to be a mantis. The head looks very similar to a stick bug head, judging by the antennae position, and no large compound eyes that mantises usually have. Or else a thread legged bug of some sort like Velve said.

How big is it?

It was up to 60mm long (exl. legs). But looking at thread-legged bug in Google I found some very similar ones. So despite having the same way to catch prey it's apparently not a mantid. Cool. You guys are amazing! Thanks. Regards, Rudolf
