    MITES!

I thankfully haven't seen any in a week now. I think the cleaning and finally snapping out of our month long 80% humidity streak is what did it. I'm not saying they wont be back but at least I seem to have won for now lol.

    Feeding Frequency

It’s a careful line to walk tbh and something I think takes some experience with them to figure out when they need to be fed. In good news all three of my dead leafs molted yesterday so I must be doing something right! XD I’ll need to get help sexing them here soon.. they’re harder to tell than...

Lol xD that’s hilarious! Love the thriftiness!

    Feeding Frequency

So larger meals with longer in between feedings could contribute to lower lifespan? :(  I’ll have change my feeding habits then. I love my girls! Don’t want to hurt them accidentally!

    Feeding Frequency

Honestly, I check on mine everyday but that’s just cuz I’m just a crazy pet lady xD check on everyone at least once a day from the mantids to the snakes. Good to know I don’t have to follow the “every two days” rule you see in online caresheets to a T however :)  thanks all!

    Feeding Frequency

Hey ya'll I've been noticing something and wanted to see if anyone else does the same. After my Heirodula's girls molted into L4s and started eating larger food they remain as I like to call it THICC for much longer than when they were younger so I hold off on feeding now until every 3-4 days...

    Heirodula male wanted

I have two girls at home and no male :( both girls are said to be Heirodula venosa (golden) L4s If anyone has a Heirodula venosa male they'd be willing to loan for breeding in a few months, trade for a female, or sell. I'd be interested. I had been trying to be a good wingman for my girl...

    MITES!

I can proudly say after washing all the laundry in my house, wiping every surface down with a bleach cleaner, cleaning every enclosure (and everything in them) four days in a row with soap and water, vacuuming two days in a row, "washing" my roaches, mealworms, darkling beetles with flour that I...

    MITES!

Oh and the mantid enclosures are on the very top you can kinda see their cups in that picture. No idea how they got mites too since I've only fed one of them some cut up mealworm (since she was ignoring fruitflies)  the others were strictly on fruit flies. Now that I think about it, I found my...

    MITES!

Dubia bin is in the bottom cupboard of my snake rack on the left side separated from the rightside by a wooden divider. On the right I have my mealworms and pupae in separate icecream containers that usually sat on top of my springtail and isopod cultures (no idea how they aren't infested tbh)...

    MITES!

Okay so today I noticed that all of my mantis enclosures had mites. I checked my substrate rubbermaid and it too had them, as did my mealworms (larve and pupae), and finally my dubias had it the worst. None of the mites seemed to be ON the mantises but all over the sides. I'm suspecting grain...

    mealworms as feeders

Thanks all! Appreciate the feedback! I have my own little mealworm farm for our savannah monitor so I had cut the behinds off of them fed that to the mantis and the front half to the sav. Sounds like I accidentally did the right thing there I'm not too afraid that they'll do much damage to him lol.

    mealworms as feeders

Hello! My mantis molted a week ago to L4 and is now officially paying no attention to Hydei anymore. They'll walk right by her and she wont even look at them. I was thinking they were a bit too small so I offered her half of a small mealworm and she took it and chowed down immediately. I ordered...

    Sexing my Hierodula

Could anyone help me sex my mantis? I think I count 6 segments but this is my first one so I wanted to check with more experienced keepers. It is L4 as of just this week.
