Any tips for furnishing a Dead Leaf enclosure?

Here is an update on the set-up. I got rid of the real (dead) leaves, and put in some fake ones. I chopped out "stems" from a fake ficus and from a weird filler plant that was originally designed for flower arranging. I got some aquarium suction cups and my trusty hot glue gun and made half a...

    Mantid moulting... is she ok?

Hahaha panic over she's free of the old skin. Guess I learned something today.... don't jump in, they'll manage on their own. Also... she's huge!! Think this must have been the pre-adult moult, defo glad I gave her a bunch of height to hang as she's a beast. Relatedly... how long do y'all...

    Mantid moulting... is she ok?

Ok trying a pic... so this is while she was hanging out taking a breather as it were. You can see the leaves there that shes using to pull on for leverage, but that last little bit of her abdomen wont come free. I can't see whether its just wedged in, or if its still attached somehow. Will she...

    Mantids drinking

Awesome Ok :) I'll give them a spray down every day or every 2nd day. Also, is it ok to get some of the spray on the mantids themselves or should I avoid that? I use water that is room temp or slightly warmer. I wonder would they drink droplets on their own bodies like some snakes do?

    Mantids drinking

Hi everyone! Do mantids need regular access to water drops or is it only an occasional thing? Does it vary by species? I guess I'm wondering if the water content of crickets is enough to prevent dehydration. I have my D.dessicata in a divided aquarium and in a plastic tank, so i can make...

Any tips for furnishing a Dead Leaf enclosure?

The dream catcher thing sounds awesome. I saw a tarantula setup that was Mayan themed once, and with all the webbing and stuff it looked phenomenal. Defo some amazing end results if you have that artistic flair :) Great tip about the oak, thanks! I'll keep my eye out for where my local oak...

Any tips for furnishing a Dead Leaf enclosure?

Thanks! Yeah I was thinking I'd have to replace it periodically especially if it gets cricket parts stuck to it. I'm other news...My mantids arrived and they are absolutely freaking unreal! I cannot get over how cool the leaf mimicry is. Gave them some time to settle and they just slammed a...
