    Molting time?

It may not be able to use the legs and is surely stressed and exausted from struggling. Perhaps tomorrow try to feed it. If it can't catch prey then you may want to set something up so it can just reach the food with its mouth. It will probably fight it at first but will learn that it is food...

    Mantid stuck in skin!

Yes you can. Wet the skin so it softens and try to help it out. For a small mantis, a needle or toothpick can brace the skin so the mantis can pull out on its own. Put the stick in between the forelegs and let the mantis try to pull free when the skin is soft from the water. Be careful and...

    Molting time?

You could try to place drops of water on the stuck skin and gently pull at it. If the mantis is really small, a toothpick or needle can be placed between the skin and mantis to brace it so the insect can try to wiggle free once the skin is softened with water. It may need help to feed now. I...

What do you keep your mantids in?

Our Target has a nice big cheeseball container. I like that it is square shaped and easy to screen. Round ones are nice, but the screen can pucker sometimes.

What do you keep your mantids in?

I too, would like to see some evidence. I have been using outdoor sticks, other items, and feeders, for the couple of years that I have been rearing mantids. I have had no problems with any of that when employing common sense, like not using anything from an area that is treated with...

    Beekeeping

I like to feed honey to any of the lost bees or wasps that end up wandering onto my porch or driveway. They seem to just walk around aimlessly so I will feed them. Many of them fly away after their treat, even if they were just walking before. Maybe they are just worn out when I find them?

    Beekeeping

I am interested as well. It seems that no one here in Pompano Beach keeps bees. I hope it is not some law, cause I would like to one day. Andrew, you don't touch the bees? :o I pet bees all the time. I have been doing it since I was a child. Mostly they don't care when they are busy on or...

    Molting posture

I know that my older(last two molts) mantids will molt soon, within a day or 2, when the tip of their abdomen stays open and doesn't close. This is only after their wingbuds are not only swollen, but appear lifted from the body. The mantids will pulsate with a rythym as well, like they are...

    Chemicals Released by Plastic

I prefer to use plastic. It is easier to attach decor to and climb on. It can also be scratched up for creatures that need some extra grip and replaced inexpensively. If it were that harmful, someone would have surely noticed it by now. The best part for me is that anyone can get a container...

    Stagmomantis floridensis or carolina?

Sometimes they will switch wings that are held on the outside. I too, have had some skinny S. carolina mantids that look like yours. :) The prothorax and abdomen still look wider and shorter than that of S. floridensis photos that I have seen. The S. floridensis look like a really stretched...

    Brunners mantis

Nice! Nikkko. They take on more than they appear they can handle. I may try again with the species.

    oothecae advice

There is no "add water" dormant culture, (It would be cool if there were :D ). Just order a culture about a week before you expect the hatching to take place. Or, pick a large one up from the store when you see the nymphs hatching. New nymphs don't want to eat for a couple of days after they...
