Its funny, so does my Mom. She loooves looking at them and letting them walk around on her hand. She gets offended when one of them doesnt "want " to go to her. But at least she'll grab the camera and come out as soon as I squeak "Moooom someones shedding" lol I cant believe I turned my mom...

    Butterfly's Mantids

So maybe she is a carolina or a limbata, Guess Ill have to wait till she's an adult to really be able...

Some more pics of the big greenie that shed last night, she doesnt have the same band on her back as some of the others do. This girl may be the one I found outside as a nymph, shes the biggest one now compared to my 2 Chinese.

Last year I found my large European and a Stagmomantis Californica out in the wild. The European flew into our stairwell at work and the Californica fell in front of me on Halloween. I. oratoria findings!!!

Yeah it stinks that it takes SO darn long. I wish I could hurry it up a bit but maybe by the time the nymphs I have now lay ooths the other ooths I had will be hatching. lol

Do I have to hand my mantid her food? Help!

She might be nearing a shed, She'd sometimes go after them, sometimes wouldnt. If shes really hungry she'll go after them. If not she'll get them the next day or just get them when they get on the stick and go her way. If she hasnt had a shed since you got her I would assume it's almost time.

    I. oratoria findings!!!

I had caught a wild S. Californica last Halloween. Her ooths were laid in November and one hatched on April 12th. I gave them no cold period, and got quite a few nymphs but am left with about 16 still alive. I hear all the time that an ooth should hatch in 4-6 weeks but have never had that...

    Butterfly's Mantids

Im hoping for a blue one, lol. I took the raffia grass and soaked it in a water and food color mixture. Turned out pretty good, and it doesnt leak off when I mist them. We'll see how it goes with the coloring, Ill keep you all posted though.

    Mantis bites

My European nibbled my finger once last year as I was giving her water. It didnt hurt at all, just felt a little pressure. That couldve been though because the bite was on scar tissue from the major surgery. Im lucky just to have kept those fingers I guess lol.
